Pokémon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire

Post by Edd » Sat Oct 25, 2014 10:25 am

I dunno if anyone's opposed to me making this but take it up with Met if you are.

Cool FAQ!
What IS it?!
ORAS are remakes of them older games, Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire from way back in 2003 or something! Set in Hoenn you take on the dastardly Team Magma or Aqua (depending on version) to stop them doing evil, illogical things.

What does ORAS MEAN?!
ORAS means Omega Ruby Alpha Sapphire you dum dum.

When can I PLAY this!?
For us puny Europeans it's out November 28th, Japan and America get it November 21st because Nintendo like them more than us.

What da box arts like?!
Like THIS:
Image
Image
Hold up, what's up with Groundon and Kyogre on those boxes?!
They got some crazy Primal Evolutions, it's like Mega Evolution but reversed but for some reason that still makes them more powerful.

Gimme the deets on the pre-order bonuses!
GAME and the Offical Nintendo UK Store are both offering the games in special steelcase versions which is just a fancy metal box rather than the usual plastic. They also both offer some figure thing depending on which game you pre-order.

Secret Bases!
The cool secret bases which were introduced in the original Ruby and Sapphire are making a return to the remakes as Super Secret Bases. Bases are made by having a Pokémon in your party use Secret Power on a spot in Hoenn. Once this is done you can enter your new base and decorate it and invite friends to visit and battle. You can effectively create your own personal gym for people to challenge.

New Stuff!
Cosplay Pikachu!
This is a thing for some reason.

After completing your first contest, you're given this special type of Pikachu ingeniously named Cosplay Pikachu. This Pikachu is able to dress up in five costumes corresponding to each Contest type and each gets access to a special move.

Once you obtain the Eon Flute, you can summon Latios or Latias who will Mega Evolve and take you on a lovely, self-controlled flight around Hoenn. This allows you to quickly traverse the entire region with the ability to land on any route or town.

During your flight you can encounter various wild Pokémon and will occasionally come across Mirage Spots. These allow you to catch various Legendary Pokémon including Lugia, Ho-Oh, Dialga, Palkia, Reshiram & Zekrom.

I like the sneaking movement that's been put in, plus the fact that we can actually move in any direction we want now. It's not a massive change by any means, but it's very welcome.

I just hope theres a mega Slowking. Doing Slowbro but not king really irks me. Same that Gallade wasn't in X/Y with Gardevoir. I also want mega Frolass now too.

Though I will get the game not really feeling much hype for it.

Wow! Omega Ruby, Alpha Sapphire and Shadow Colosseum [Hey, I can dream]! Awesome!

Yeah. I'm excited for the games. Be getting me some Magma with Omega Ruby. Choose Treecko, swap out for Poochyena as soon as. I'm so going to enjoy going against the first gym with it.

I'll probably get it. But after it's already been out for a year, as is the trend with me and Pokemon games these past couple of years.
I am functioning within the established parameters.

Mega Metagross puts me in mind of some kind of Star Wars fighter craft. Not quite an X-Wing, but something. And then there's Mega Salamence looking like the Rebel symbol. But Mega Swampert has 100% confirmed that I'll be starting with Mudkip again.

Anyway, since playing the demo I'm suddenly looking forward to this a lot more than I was. I'd forgotten how much enjoyed Hoenn the first time around and after exploring Mossdeep City over and over I'm eager to see what the rest of the world looks like now. I'm also looking forward to seeing what other changes/improvements have been made, both the larger ones from R/S/E and the smaller ones from X/Y.

I really can't wait for this game :) does anybody know if they will keep the same online trading system that X&Y had? On my first play through of Y I never touched the online trading system but on my 2nd play through I'm loving the online trading system and the way you can ask for any Pokemon even if you haven't seen it. My team has changed so much since I found this out a few days ago. It's home from Frogadier, Hawlucha, Pyroar, Lucario and Pikachu to Prinplup, Monferno (a Japanse one with the iron fist ability, with thunder and fire punch!), I caught a Staravia and have kept Lucario and Pikachu, it's looking very sinnoh now! I know it may be a touch odd to use other starters in a different region when playing the game normally (ie not post game) but I really like all the Sinnoh starters, may look for a Turtwig as well!

I assume you're referring to Wondertrading and so far as I'm aware it's not a function that's been reported on. I can't particularly see them doing away with it because it's easy to carry over unlike customisation clothes.

For those wondering why customisation isn't available in ORAS its most likely because they'd have to start it from scratch after resizing Ruby and Sapphire in comparison to other characters, i.e. Ruby is only shoulder height to Stephen when in XY everyone was the same height. This change and altered build of the character meant they wouldn't be able to simply bring over old clothes and so would have to redo the wardrobe from scratch which is fine except they had a tighter deadline this time round.

Think it's been confirmed that you'll no longer be allowed to trade Mega Stones over Wonder Trade. And I assume they'll block the legendaries with their new moves from being put on there too. I'd have thought with the segregation of their battling servers they could possibly have different ones for that too, but I'm no expert on that stuff.

Forgot to mention that I'm also really looking forward to the return of proper Secret Bases, not the lame underground ones from D/P/Pl. I'm intrigued by the pseudo-Gym thing you can do and wondering if they'll all be in the same locations as R/S/E or if there'll be more or in different places. I mean, there were only 75 locations in the original games and with online play there'll be a lot more people to connect with, so what happens if you meet someone with a base in the same location as yours?
