JenovaPX wrote:No, not really. Spreading a story between two regions adds nothing to a game, particularly in such a shoehorned manner as just getting on an aeroplane. I seriously still don't get this infatuation people have with having multiple regions, it just adds playtime to the games, particularly in two regions with gooseberry fool all to do with each other.
I'm not suggesting it for the sake of exploration or favouritism, and it isn't infatuation to want the games to branch out and give us something beyond the usual 'get eight badges and defeat the league, defeating bad guys on your day off' story. I'm not tired of that formula, but wanting something more is never an infatuation. Those that want for the sake of wanting are those with the infatuation. They just want a region with prettier graphics. I'm saying to go beyond what we know with the formula to mix it up, actually making it worth your time to go between regions - maybe not even with the full region accessible, but only that which is needed for the story progression - with a story that equally focuses on both while at the same time making both important.
It's not just a case of wanting a region to appear again in my eyes. It's getting something more by adding something else to the mix.

Everyone always says they want the formula to "mix up" a bit but I've yet to see a good suggestion as to what that could be.

To be honest, any experimentation should be strictly within the spin-offs for anything major. We wouldn't want the whole formula changing, for example, and it being a part of the main games of the future despite not many liking it. I'm not sure how you could mix it up except by simple changes. Changing the gyms into special tournament type places...
It does seem hard to actually think of something that could work in a main game. Then again, sometimes the things people don't expect to work will.

There's plenty pokémon can do to mix up the gameplay and flow of things, all they need to do is look around at the competition. Inclusion of things like quests and the like a la Yokai Watch (which has proven especially popular with pokémon's Japanese audience), more of a focus on the story than simply having the story to parallel your progression through the game, a new pokédex with fewer pokémon and the absence of old mon or limited old mon, etc. There's scope for significant changes without diverging from the basic collection RPG pokémon is.

Also Darkrula, you pretty much entirely missed my point in my reply to you. I wasn't saying wanting more or wanting changes to the franchise are an infatuation, I said the inclusion of multiple regions (in whatever manner people suggest) was an infatuation. As for adding something more to the mix, your original idea doesn't do that.

Oh, I get you now.
To be honest, I saw a comment on Nintendo Life that was sort of similar to what I wrote before I actually wrote anything. Me being me, I jumped on the idea. I guess I was just trying to justify it when you replied to me. Now I think on it, I'm undecided. The ideas you suggested are certainly good to mix up the flow.

Personally I'm hoping for new info on Pokemon Go. Although an announcement of Battle Frontier DLC for ORAS would be great too.

It's a year old now, it's probably not happening and in terms of Pokémon based DLC (which they've said they have no intentions of charging people for) it's a bit big. Pokémon Go is certainly something the announcement might focus on, it wouldn't be surprising to get some new details on it, maybe a release date or something since it's just penned for Early 2016 right now.

Then why did they have to taunt us with those references to it in the Battle Resort? T-T

Those who are yet to get the Gen 5 starters with their hidden abilities on ORAS, the event ends on November 30th.

Mew is being distributed throughout Feb at GAME. Have to go and ask for code in store, don't see why this couldn't just be distributed over wifi along with all the other Pokemon they are releasing over the year.

Because why not make an event out of it?
Far as I read from the announcements, each Pokemon has not only the code but also specific merchandise to that Pokemon also available in store. So the parents take their children in store, ask for the code, the kids see the merch and want some of that too. There's going to be a lot of money made this year, it seems.

Game? Making a lot of money? It'd make a change I guess. These events haven't exactly had large turn outs for years, I think Gen IV was the last time you could argue they were proper events that stores made money off of.

Has anyone ever entered into one of those online competitions advertised in-game?
Kanto Classics is another one of those, with the theme of the 20th celebrations.
Sounds interesting enough. Not sure if anyone here goes for them, though.

I haven't, but I'm considering entering this one just to see how tough the competition really is on them.
So far I'm just planning a team.

I know it doesn't take much to download, but I'm really trying hard to get this Kanto team of mine ready. Either way - Celebi!

Been using Showdown to test myself, using my current team of Omega Ruby, against others. Despite not being fully trained, I've been able to take out at most three of the other team's six. If I was to boost them up on Showdown to fully trained, I guess I could just scrape a win.

So I was going to post as soon as the event ended, but thought it better to wait for the rankings.
Out of 32,220 participants, I came 31,041 with 1388 points. Fourteen matches, with three wins. I think I came close on a number of the matches I lost, with the most frustrating match being against a Clefable with a massive defensive game. I think the biggest drawback of my matches was the fact that by the near end, I'd usually only have my Charizard and Flareon left. Not good.
And I didn't put too much time into EV training as I perhaps should have. Had fun though.

I wish they wouldn't make events where you have to go to a Smyths to get a pokemon. GAME is okay but I don't have a Smyths anywhere near me. I know it's only for the Legendary Birds, albeit with hidden abilities, but still...

Apparently starting from tomorrow you can get Volcanion. Not sure if you can just straight up download it or whether you have to enter the code.

Posting it in this thread, but it's also available in X/Y as well.

Is there a source for that? As far as I know, the only events for it so far have been in Japan. I was actually wondertraded one yesterday, got rid straight away as I'd rather get my own when it's actually released here. Got it on my dex anyway.
