To be fair, I think Toxapex is going to be on literally every competitive team in the future as people's go to wall so I wouldn't be surprised if people are already mass breeding Mareanie and wonder trading the bad ones away on Wonder Trade.

Personally from experience online I've found that Alolan Raichu's Stoke Sparksurfer Special Z-Move can break through Toxapex's Baneful Bunker and damage it, not to mention that Alolan Raichu's types perfectly match up against Toxapex but it's Special Attack just isn't going to be enough to stand a chance of one shotting it.

EDIT: The worst one to find is probably going to be Vanillite. SOS only encounter AND only when it's snowing. That may take a while...

Z-Moves still deal 25% of the original damage to Pokémon using protecting moves iirc. Not sure why any competitive Toxapex would be running BB in the first place though.

Also, SOS exclusives aren't bad, it's pretty easy to farm with False Swipe and an Adrenaline Orb. For Mareanie, it's just getting Corsola to appear.
Might be losing sleep over trying to get Vulpix and Dhelmise tonight...

Always helpful for a Toxic stalling Pokemon to have a protection move right?

Anyway, looks like Magearna is finally out. Here's the QR code

Got mine just now and got the best possible nature for it, Modest.

If it's elegible in Battle Tree (may not be, 600 BST is pushing it a bit) then I may consider using it for that reason, only downside is that it's signature move harshly decreases Special Attack so if you use it then it's ability is negated somewhat.

Well I'm just about to move onto the ghost trial which means I'll be adding a Mimikyu to my team fairly shortly, might try and hit up the GTS and see if I can get my hands on a Drampa slightly earlier than I would have been able to do.

Sadly but perhaps unsurprisingly, Magearna is banned from the Battle Tree.

It's something I would like to take on properly though so I'm training up some Pokemon to take it on, starting with Type:Null who I originally wanted to use on my team but just came too late. Looks like he'll be used for something useful after all. Base 0 Happiness is proving hard to raise from though.

How much should I be paying attention to Natures? My Dhelmise is Lonely and my Vulpix is Bold. As someone who isn't super fussed with competitve play but doesn't mind the odd battle here and there should I be taking it into consideration?

for in game teams no.

for online teams yes.

natures either raise one stat and lower another, or do nothing.

for Lonely it gives +attack and -defense

for Bold it gives +defense and -attack

no idea what the best natures for Dhelmise and Vulpix are.

that's not saying you'll struggle with them online though. As long as they're properly EV/IV trained you'll be fine because you'll go up against people who don't care about natures/EVs/IVs a good amount anyway.

So far as I know, anyone who does care about those things largely just use Showdown anyway so yeah, I daresay the majority of online players will be kids and casual players who don't care or have only a vague knowledge of that kind of thing if any at all.

Assuming Alola Vulpix is still comparable to regular Vulpix the ideal nature is timid, modest is ok too. List of natures and their stat changes

Ideally, Vulpix wants you to SOS chain it for its Hidden Ability and then Timid nature.

Dhelmise has pretty decent defence already so I think I'll keep it. Timid does sound it will better for Vulpix tho. So I might keep this one as temp until later in the game where it's easier to find them. Thanks for the heads up guys.

Yeah, Natures are pretty tame with stat changes from my limited experience.
I usually go for natures that give better defence, even if improving attack is the better choice for a given 'mon. And whatever the decreased stat is, I always put the remaining EV points on it.

That's genuinely one of the worst things you can do for a competitive mon, you'd actively be better off just not bothering with natures or EVs

Also natures really aren't tame stat changes, they're +/-10%, that's pretty big

I was playing around on Showdown a bit and had a thing that was being kinda eton mess, then I realised that I'd forgot to set its nature. Played a few more games and it was suddenly an unkillable monster.
It was Clefairy

But there are a fair amount of Japanese players that use the Free Battle mode and take either well trained teams or abuse cheap tactics online too, and those tend to be a bit harder than others.

Finished EV training my newly evolved Silvally, got it to max EVs before it even evolved, moving onto Metang now and focusing on Attack and Defence EVs, already halfway through Attack thanks to Route 11 having literally all but one of it's Pokemon giving out Attack EVs, especially Trumbeak, Gumshoos and Komola who all give out 2 each.

Prior to this the only time I even tried to EV train was to evolve my Tyrogue in HeartGold into a Hitmontop...

Just thought, EV training must have taken a bit of a step back from gen 6 if horde battles are gone, there was a way of getting like 25 points from each battle wasn't there? I guess SOS kind of works on the same basis but doesn't seem as surefire.
