personally I avoid the originals like the plague because I find them far too dated and glitchy to receive any sort of enjoyment out of them in this era.

I just play leaf green whenever I want my fix of gen 1.

I'm sorry but anyone who thinks a crit shouldn't be affected by how fast you are is a fool :^)

Wasn't accuracy based on speed as well?

No everything has a chance to miss, and if you were slower than something then OHKO moves wouldn't work ever. you still need to pump up your stoise with x accuracy as well as speed in speed runs for the elite 4.

Pretty sure slash had a 99% chance to crit or something dumb like that. And yeah if you boosted a stat too many times it would just roll over into ridiculously low numbers.

Tbh I could spend ages talking about the bugs in gen 1 as some of them are hilarious. Who could forget how Toxic and Leech Seed go off the same damage calculator when they are stacked? And how you don't have to recharge if you ko someone with Hyper Beam? Also lmao the special stat.

They haven't aged terribly well, so you're not missing much. Still good if you want to see how the series began though.

I don't think slash itself had a 99% crit chance, but it could get that high on a well trained persian, and possibly some other things.

Aerodactyl. I think the chances of getting a crit Slash with Aerodactyl was ridiculously high.

No, it wasn't slash that had the 99% crit rate, it just ran at 8x more likely to be a crit. This meant that even slow mon like Clefable were hitting around 90% chance to crit so it might as well have been. (EDIT: also it ran off of base stats so training didn't make much difference)

Explosion and Selfdestruct hit everything for super effective, even Ghosts. They are highly recommended moves.
<Kaeetayel> Go for a team entirely composed of Eeveelutions
<Princess> that's effort
<Princess> I need to buy the stones/go to rocks/make them happy/touch Eevee
<Kaeetayel> The last one doesn't sound too bad

90% accuracy blizzard. no thawing except on getting hit by a fire move as well. amnesia most broken boost in the game.

I think all of these (what would now be seen as broken) battle mechanics kind of add to the charm that is the gen 1 Pokemon games.

They were still thought of as broken back then, I mean they straight up gooseberry fool up the psychic - ghost weakness leaving psychic mon to basically be god tier.

Plus Psychic wasn't weak to Bug back then. That didn't get added until Gen 2.

Oh yeah, Alakazam was basically unstoppable. I don't get how they thought Lick was a good enough balance for him, wasn't that the only Ghost move in the game?

Pretty sure it was weak to bug in gen 1 actually. But what bug moves were you going to use barring pin missile on a jolteon let's be honest.

yes it was, it was just that there was only one bug move of any worth and it was pin missile (and the only halfway decent mon that learned it was Jolteon)

honestly I think people overrate how good psychic types were in Gen 1 a little purely because on paper they seem so ridiculously powerful (and because RB Mewtwo is the #1 most broken mon in the history of the series). Exeggutor was the better psychic type imo and I'd even put Chansey above Zam. but my experience with Gen 1 meta isn't that extensive.

the speedrun route uses Nidoking
