Pokémon Generations

Post by Dix » Fri Sep 16, 2016 4:57 pm

So the first two episodes were released today.

Looks like the first one is essentially just an extended trailer, while the second one involves Looker and the Police tracking down Giovanni after Silph Co.

Episode 1.

Episode 2.

Personally, I'm not a fan:
In the R/B/Y timeline when Red beats Giovanni at his Gym. He gains a new perspective, and then disappears. So why would he disappear, and then so quickly say that Team Rocket still rules and all of that? Makes no sense in the grand scheme of things. Honestly the whole thing just felt pointless. If it's supposed to be 'untold stories' they should be catering to much more worthwhile things than this. On top of that, the dialogue was gooseberry fool putrid. Nothing to it at all.

Didn't like the first episode a lot although given that it was effectively an extended trailer that was understandable. It was also refreshing to see a Pikachu not go "Pikapika".

Second episode was a cool idea, integrating Looker from the later games with trying to capture Giovanni. I like that, his role isn't supposed to confine him to one region so capturing Giovanni would understanadly be one of his roles.

Overall OK for what are effectively 5 minute specials, I think I'll reserve judgement until the whole thing has finished before forming my opinion.

Third episode out and was much better than the first two.
<Kaeetayel> Go for a team entirely composed of Eeveelutions
<Princess> that's effort
<Princess> I need to buy the stones/go to rocks/make them happy/touch Eevee
<Kaeetayel> The last one doesn't sound too bad

Yeah, third episode was really solid, it was cool to see Blue's Elite Four challenge after so many years and the dialogue between him and Agatha was a nice touch.

Unfortunately, I think the run time of only 5 minutes severely hindered the episode. They effectively had to cut out most of the battles between the Elite Four aside from the attacks that finished the final Pokemon of their teams, it would have been cool to see fully fledged fights between Blue and the Elite Four. The episodes only being 5 minutes is something I can see hindering the series in the long term in any battle related episodes because the team behind Generations is really good at animating Pokemon fights.

Also I noticed these episodes are appearing as adverts on Youtube although it may be due to the large quantity of Pokemon videos I've been watching and the fact that I don't have adblock on my laptop.

I agree, the third episode was really good, shame about the length. I actually started watching some random episodes of the anime earlier and watched the full battle in the Kalos League between Ash and Alain, was quite a decent battle considering you know the outcome before it's even started.

Episode 4 of Pokemon Generation has gone up

This one flowed very well I thought, they made good use of the 5 minutes they had and Lance's Dragonite had that kind of "badass" edge to it, both from it's own strength and it's attitude.

Dragonite is very aware that it's a badass.

Dragonite stole the gooseberry fool show. How can one pokemon be so smug and powerful all at once?
I think we can all agree that i`m a great asset to the human race.

Episode 7 was released yesterday, I thought it could have been a bit better but still not bad. I'd have like to have seen the battle between Sceptile and Camerupt.

Episode 8 went up yesterday. Not exactly an untold story but really well animated nonetheless.

I don't remember Archie being eaten in the games. Curious about next week's episode now. Are we getting a direct sequel where Rayquaza fixes eton mess or is it not going to be explained how either of the last two episodes were resolved.
