The Nuzlocke Thread
So, about a week ago, the domain which housed Nuzlocke's Hard Mode series expired, so I thought that it would be a good chance to generate some discussion on the subject.
For those unfamiliar with the Nuzlocke challenge, it is basically a set of self-imposed rules which increase the difficulty of your average Pokémon playthrough. It was conceived when a 4chan user by the name of Nuzlocke began a webcomic series entitled "Ruby: Hard Mode", which soon became extremely popular. The rules which he used for his original journey have become the basis of all Nuzlocke challenges to follow:
Rules:
1. If a Pokémon faints, it is considered dead and you must release it
2. You may only catch the first Pokémon you see in each area
Since then, there have been many additional rules that people have used to further increase the difficulty of their Nuzlocke adventures, such as the restriction of healing items during battle, or switching battle style to "Set" These runs have become so popular as they bring a kind of challenge not present in the games, and encourage you to become more attached to your lovable creatures.
Discuss.

Re: The Nuzlocke Thread
Knew Nuzlocke hadn't posted anything in ages but it's sad to see his site go down all the same, kept hoping he'd reappear eventually. I might get round to finishing my Giftlocke on Red in his memory.

I will eventually finish setting up this channel and starting a recorded run, but yeah, procrastination and distractions abound

Re: The Nuzlocke Thread
I've done three Nuzlockes. My first one on Red I never finished, one on Y where I was slaughtered by a Hawlucha, and one on LeafGreen.
I've been doing a Nuzlocke recently. It's actually on my YouTube channel. You should go and check it out 8)

I finished a Wonderlocke not too long back, was quite fun even if there wasn't much challenge, since all my pokemon got boosted exp from the trade and they were all clearly breeding rejects.
I beat the Champion with:
Aegislash
Tyrantrum
Wigglytuff
Rotom
Staraptor
Crobat

I Nuzlocked Red, Gold and Ruby
I was suppose to Nuzlocke every generation but when I reached Ruby my save file got corrupted and I couldn't be arsed to continue. But moving onto the subject of Nuzlocke, http://www.nuzlocke.com/ is still loading for me.

It went down on the 3rd (my birthday), but returned two days ago. Apparently the domain automatically renewed, and is now set to expire next year.OmegaPit wrote:But moving onto the subject of Nuzlocke, http://www.nuzlocke.com/ is still loading for me.
I've managed to complete Silver, Platinum and Omega Ruby using no duplicates and no items during battle. The thing about duplicates is that it's a double-sided argument; you could argue that it's harder without as it sometimes limits the total number of Pokémon you can catch, and easier as you can get a wider range of types in your party. I prefer to use it as it forces you to use Pokémon that you wouldn't necessarily use in a normal playthrough, which is more interesting than playing with 50 Zigzagoon.

I Nuzlocked LeafGreen and White, no deaths in White but a couple in LG. Made me appreciate Audino more since it saved me against ghetsis and N, and SeaKingSlazo was the hero of LG.

Re: The Nuzlocke Thread
I tried a Wonderlocke ages ago and stopped because I kept getting level 1 stuff when I was too far ahead to bother leveling it up. I'd be interesting in doing one properly but is there any way to get around that problem?Garf wrote:I finished a Wonderlocke not too long back, was quite fun even if there wasn't much challenge, since all my pokemon got boosted exp from the trade and they were all clearly breeding rejects.

Re: The Nuzlocke Thread
The variation I did was that you catch 6 at the start of the game, then you trade them off and that's your team for the entire game, and if one dies, you trade it off
Luckily, my only death was Crobat against the champion. I guess the only way to overcome the whole Lv.1 issue would be to just use the EXP Share until it has caught up, or do the 'put it at the front, then immediately switch out' trick if you don't want to overlevel your team. If you're fighting lv. 50's, it should shoot up most levels

Re: The Nuzlocke Thread
I'm on my first Nuzlocke at the moment, Leaf Green. Current team is looking way too Normal type centric, but I'm doing a good job balancing my levels. About to take on Erika.
Woolie/Ivysaur - Level 30
Triple D/Pidgeotto - Level 30
Rhett/Raticate - Level 30
Leonard/Sandslash - Level 30
Ollie/Wigglytuff - Level 30
Bill Gates/Meowth - Level 14 (Using him as a slave)
Hopefully I can capture a Bellsprout soon and pick up the Super Rod, allowing me to go back to route 24 and catch a Krabby. Could have had a Vulpix but it used Roar on me. Missed my chance at Eevee as well by wasting 2 hours in the game corner and buying Porygon. Best decision EUW confirmed.
Couple of deaths so far, including Snoop Dogg the Weedle. RIP.

Re: The Nuzlocke Thread
Leonard just died to a Channelor's Gastly when it used Curse on me and I mis calculated how much damage curse actually does. Been training up Dinesh the Diglett to take his place and avenge his death, it's such a pain in the ass pressing B every level to stop the evolution to Dugtrio. Need that level 41 Earthquake, currently level 33. Also picked up RichardLee the Hitmonlee, but he won't see any use because he doesn't get access to Blaze Kick in this version, probably should have checked that before I picked him over Hitmonchan. Heading to Fuchsia now, hopefully Dinesh will reach 41 before the gym, if not Ollie will have to do with Psychic.

Re: The Nuzlocke Thread
Currently doing an Alpha Sapphire Wedlocke, at the Pokemon League but taking on some training before I attempt it. My Camerupt (Carlos) sadly didn't make it through Victory Road so I'm having to gain a lot of levels on a Persian I caught at a Mirage Spot (I allowed myself one Mirage Spot capture).
My team as it stands right now consist of:
Max (Persian) lvl 37 x Jen (Grumpig) lvl 49
Richard (Relicanth) lvl 48 x Diana (Dusclops) lvl 49
Gus (Azumarill) lvl 49 x Yasmin (Latias) lvl 46

Re: The Nuzlocke Thread
It's a variant popularised by the Youtuber Marriland. It follows Nuzlocke rules but you're only allowed to use one pair in battle. You capture the first encounter that's of the opposite gender to the Pokemon you need a partner for and once your team is full you just capture the first encounter on a route so long as it has a gender.

Re: The Nuzlocke Thread
Gonna do a Nuzlocke on Omega Ruby. I've not done a Nuzlocke in an obscene amount of time.
I've only got about 3 hours on the save so I may as well start over.
Someone pick a starter for me.

Cazwegian's Omega Ruby Nuzlocke - Part 1
After reluctantly saving a Professor from death by Poochyena, I was given a Torchic and told to go and enslave as many Pokémon as possible or something.
Zigzagoon was my first slave-fighter who I caught on Route 103 and dubbed HelenMSlave. Unfortunately due to a major lapse in concentration HelenMSlave died in vain as I tried to catch a Taillow.
Basil the Cascoon was the next victim of humanity shortly followed by Wendy the Wurmple.
After quite a few battles and rescuing a nerd in the woods, Wendy and Basil both evolved.
I then decided to spend the night in Rustboro City.
Location: Rustboro City
Badges: 0
Team:

Wendy - Lv 7 (caught Route 104)

Basil - Lv 10 (caught Petalburg Woods)

Rik - Lv 14 (caught Route 101)
DEAD:

HelenMSlave - Lv7 - Slowly beaten to death by a Taillow on Route 102
