Really not surprising in the least, anyone who thought Zelda would win with so few Switches even being shipped wasn't thinking. Ninty really need to sort this kind of thing out, it's just stupid.

Re: UK Game Sales Chart
I know the UK has never been a Nintendo stronghold but 80K units really isn't that many for a console launch weekend, can definitely see why Zelda didn't beat Horizon to number one. I know it doubled the Wii U opening sales but 40K shouldn't have been hard to beat.

Keep in mind the Switch shipped 2 million units, globally.

Re: UK Game Sales Chart
All the indications have been that it was a bit of a rushed, "soft" launch from Nintendo. Being in March rather than pre-holiday I'd expect it to be lower. We'll see better how the Switch stands after Christmas.Robbo-92 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 07, 2017 9:34 amI know the UK has never been a Nintendo stronghold but 80K units really isn't that many for a console launch weekend, can definitely see why Zelda didn't beat Horizon to number one. Re: UK Game Sales Chart
Yeah the Switch wasn't launched at the ideal time of the year for maximum sales, maybe they did it this way to ensure they have the stock to meet demand for later in the year. I guess with just how well the Switch seemed to be perceived we might have seen higher sales for the first weekend, if they can get a game bundled with it for Christmas it'll seem like a much better buy in my opinion.

If they nail E3 and announce a good chunk of upcoming games, I can see it doing incredibly well in the holidays as people buy it with Mario Odyssey.

Re: UK Game Sales Chart
Nah, that's not how it really works. All this means is that they've lost sales by not being able to adequately capitalise on the launch. The fact that so many pre-orders have been cancelled and so many people can't get one is just Nintendo gooseberry fool up and being scared about "consoles left in warehouses" after the WiiU flopped. In the end, there's a lot of people who just won't be getting a Switch ever because of this. Nintendo just don't have good business sense a lot of the time.

Re: UK Game Sales Chart
Not sure how true that is. Seems more like deliberate Nintendo false scarcity to me, although I imagine part of it is being cautious following the WiiU. Nintendo want to be able to say that the Switch sold out to market the console. I don't know how much is to do with it being rushed to launch before the end of the financial year either.

Re: UK Game Sales Chart
It's probably a mix of everything because Nintendo honestly don't seem to understand how to pull off a launch post-Wii. It's kind of embarrassing that they feel they need to resort to things like scarcity for publicity or that they lack confidence to really push for the big launch it deserves.

Re: UK Game Sales Chart
I agree, but I don't think it's a Nintendo specific problem. Every console launch "sells out" despite the varying numbers and I think Sony did very similar with the PSVR. Apple have been doing it for years.

Re: UK Game Sales Chart
Yeah missing out on sales is bad, I wasn't actually aware people had their preorders cancelled actually having not looked into it that much. Kind of stupid from Nintendo if this is deliberate false scarcity, it's a brand new console that seems to be appealing to a lot of people, just get plenty of stock in to actually sell to said people, if it does sell badly ala Wii U and 3DS at launch they could reduce the hardware price and try and recoup the losses in increased software sales.
Really hope the stock levels aren't an issue when I come to get one later in the year, I know the NES Mini is still sold out all over the place.

Re: UK Game Sales Chart
I didn't even know the Walking Dead season 3 came out on disk?
Good overall sales for the Switch games, it'll be interesting to see how Zelda fares next week as there's a fair few big games coming this week like Ghost Recon, Lego Worlds and Neir.

Not too bad considering Switch games appear out of stock most places I've seen.

What's the co-op in Lego City like Richard? That's the only new feature that may tempt me to purchase the game again.
