I've (somehow) been doing pretty well as the Aztecs so far. Up to turn 400 and I'm in a relatively strong position...I think. Even after a poorly-executed war against the Huns. Still, I've gotten 6 cities and none of them have fallen. All are well-defended. My only main problem has been choosing how to progress with research. I've only just gotten up to studying Flight.

The English UU's are very OP.

Their ability + Great Lighthouse can be deadly.

Well, I lost as the Aztecs. It was all going well until I foolishly declared war on Hong Kong, which in turn lead to the Byzantines declaring war on me and taking my capital.

Was Hong Kong being protected by the Byzantines? If so you can't blame 'em. How were you faring in the demographics?

I think that was the case, yeah. Wasn't really paying attention to demographics though. For the most part, I was too busy trying to figure out how to research things faster, as well as trying to remain on good terms with the other nations...except Venice, because they kind of got taken out of the game by myself and Theodora.

I personally find demographics betyer tyen score to gauge the 'top dogs'.

Personally I don't generally attack city-states. This can seriously damage relations with civs. Did Hong Kong have any strategic/resource importance?

Not really. Small coastal city, not far from a couple of atolls, Eastern border with Byzantium. I already had 4 coastal cities when I attacked though. Really, I attacked it more on a whim than anything else. :/

Had Another Civ game with a few friends. I was lagging behind for a bit and then managed to get to the top of the leaderboard. I had a massive army which I was using to wipe out my friend who was Ethiopia. I took him out and then went for another friend who was Japan. Just about to nuke his whole civ until he wins because of culture...

God dammit.

Best way to win as England is just buy all the city states with your vast commerce gold then win world leader

Anyone who will get science or culture before then you just invade

Winning by culture is dumb because it's always easier to diplomatic victory. The culture rushing is there to get you all the social policies that make that possible.

I actually see Culture victory as pretty difficult. Compared to that, getting Science victory was a complete cakewalk, even if I wasn't gaining science as quickly as I'd had liked.

Got consumed by Civ again. Something like 30 hours since Saturday. Kind of been very silly in my current game. Playing as Austria with no City States for one thing... But also not actually invading Japan despite having my entire military on their border for 900 years which took up loads of gold resources and let them build up a new defence after I crushed their initial invasion force. This led to a 50 year war that managed to get me on the bad side of the remaining 7 Civs. (Started as a 10 Civ game). Now I'm at war with 5 of them: Arabia, India, Morocco, The Celts and The Inca. I just find it strange that it's Mongolia and The Huns who don't give much of a eton mess. So now I have a wall of Rocket Artillery around my capital to defend the gooseberry fool out of the homeland while my island cities that no one except Boudica's noticed work towards a science victory.

Don't think it's going to work...
<Kaeetayel> Go for a team entirely composed of Eeveelutions
<Princess> that's effort
<Princess> I need to buy the stones/go to rocks/make them happy/touch Eevee
<Kaeetayel> The last one doesn't sound too bad

Things tend to go that way when you just attack everyone, I suppose. I had a game once when at first I was part of a coalition against the Zulus, and then everyone else pussied out while I continued the war. Cue everyone else calling me a warmonger and my long term ally America declaring war on me, with everyone else casting dirty looks in my general direction.

In fairness I did sink the entire Iroquoi navy unprovoked just because I could, but by that point I think international relations had soured too much. Besides, I'd attack the Iroquois on principle, the greedy gooseberry fool that they always are (they always turn out really powerful in my games for some reason, huge land areas, best science, biggest military, they have it all)

I don't usually go the warmonger route in my games. More often than not, everything turns to eton mess rather quick. If anything, it's easier to fight defensively than offensively. Which is essential when you're bordered on both sides by a pretty aggressive nation, such as Carthage.

Warmonger's a pretty fun role to take though every now and then, especially just for dicking around on it and building on early advancements.
