It was goddamn incredible my god. Absolutely amazing.
Can anyone have a go or was it there as part of a special event? I have never been but would assume it is only around 45 mins from where I live so I would love to give it a go

Anyone can have a go but you have to register on the day to get assigned a slot (they opened the registration at about 11 I think). It's £8.50 to get in the building, worth visiting even if you don't try the VR. I'd check the opening times at the website www.gamecity.org

The Vive is a fantastic bit of kit, but if you're going to order one you really should consider if you have the space for it. Their whole "Room Scale" bit has a lot of problems for those of us who don't live in giant American houses. Blindfolding yourself and wandering around your room with the guts of a grands worth of equipment strapped to your face tethered to another grands worth of equipment is eventually going to end in tears if no one is watching out for you.

Yeah, it's definitely not something I could consider getting at all - super expensive and impossibly impractical for where I live. As an experience though it was amazing.

Anyone been watching Giant Bomb's coverage of the Oculus and Vive? Really interesting to see what they both offer, seeing as I don't have the money or PC hardware to own them. Seems very wild west at the moment, with a lot of developers clearly trying loads of unique experiences. Some work, some don't, but some look really freakin' cool. Feels very similar to the early 3D stuff of the mid-ninties with just loads of experimental stuff.

Bottom line; I'm looking forward to what the PS VR offers later in the year.

Didn't see much of their Oculus stuff but been watching bits of the Vive one today. Kind of surprised at how much cool stuff there is available already. Just a shame Vive seems completely impractical for the average user in terms of space and stuff.

But Portal 3 VR pls

Which if using the Vive could be used in game as the propulsion gel?

Rock Paper Shotgun's John Walker on the Vive in a normal house.

Pretty much as expected really. If the base units are that poorly designed I'd wait for a quick refresh of those before ordering. They're not particularly complicated bits of kit, but making them really light and cubes where one straight face emits the light and needs the whole cube to be angled is just bad design. They'll have another design out for those out soon enough.

we got my son one of those VisoR things as he asked for one as part of his birthday presents. He let me have a quick go..its okay and the price tag is well worth a little look if your curious about virtual vision and affordable possibilities.

VR is worth diving into when all the affordable electric giants make one. U don't buy one of theirs, they just inspire the better players to try harder and then you jump in and grab Oculus Rift 3. I don't see myself owning one of the first gen sets.. Still time to win people over though I guess.
