PlayStation VR

It is not long now until the 13th of October when PlayStation VR will be released, I have one on preorder along with a new PS4 camera and VR worlds I may also get the new move controllers, I am excited to try it out but don't think it will be something I will use, I am also pleased that it will come with a demo disc as I used to love them, I find I never download demos but when you got discs with consoles or magazines I would play every single game on the disc

Will anyone else be getting PlayStation VR next month?

I won't be getting one, it's way too expensive and could potentially be just a gimmicky extra with a very short lifespan of use.

It's probably fun to try though.

I don't have a PS4 yet, but I'll definitely consider it when this and the Pro drop in price.

The PS4 support may well die a death, but if I remember correctly, one of the devs hinted that they may work on PC support in the future. At the very least, it shouldn't take the community long to crack it themselves. Just look at Revive, the project to bring Oculus games to the Vive.

I'm simple waiting on assurances that the thing is usable on a regular PS4 rather than the Pro. If it is, I am jumping right in.

Sony have insisted that all PSVR games must work on the original PS4, running at a minimum of 60fps. Some developers have complained that the old hardware is a bit of a bottleneck and caused issues in development, though, so make of that what you will.

As much as I would love to believe Sony, I think I'll be more comfortable waiting for the actual reviews to come out.

I'm still super excited by PSVR, as the only VR product I have reasonable access to, but I don't want to get over-hyped and disappointed by poor performance. A graphical hit I am fine with, as long as the FPS is there to provide a convincing VR experience.

Yeah PSVR is the version I'm most interested in. As much as people can point to Sony's long history of dropped peripherals, this one is still more likely to have a long lifespan than either the Rift or the Vive (both of which are really likely to get a new version around a year from now).

It'll probably also shift more units, hopefully leading to more support, than the others. Even looking at Steamspy, despite the Vive being hyped for a year+, getting ringing endorsements all through the media, having a following that borders on religious evangelism, Valve's own free VR pack in The Lab has a player count at around 170k give or take 10k. They're not great numbers.

I'll wait until it actually releases and see how it goes, but it definitely is on my radar for a purchase this holiday. That Battlezone VR looks great too.

I think it's an overpriced gimmick and a phase that'll die out pretty quickly.

I won't be getting it, but I will try it out when there's a demo unit doing the rounds where I live.

I doubt I'll be getting it this generation to be honest, certainly not anytime soon at least. Largely a mix of wanting a good array of titles of good quality and affordability. Assuming it does last and isn't a gimmick which given the amount of industry support we're seeing seems very likely (it's already a competitive market with heavy investment so don't expect it to die out too quickly) there's no rush, just have to hope initial sales are good enough that it doesn't just get seen as a lost venture.

Apparently it requires a cleared play area of 60sqft, which I wasn't aware of until just now. My living room is barely big enough even if I could clear everything out of it.

What?

I thought PSVR was mostly sitting/stationary VR. I know it uses the camera but I thought that was just for move tracking?

Yeah, I don't really understand why it would need a large play area either. As far as I know the camera is doing all the tracking (so line of sight for the Move and head tracking) and like the Rift, Roomscale™ just isn't a thing the devs are playing with as opposed to the Vive.

I'm just going off articles like this, it's entirely possible they're just covering themselves, like with the Wii warning screens.

More than likely, probably more because you're visually restricted in the case of VR and they'll not want any of the issues that things like the wiimote brought with some idiots.

Yeah it's not going to be a feature. People have been demoing it in confined spaces and some people will use it purely as a monitor.

All the PS4s they have used on the demo tours both here and in America have been on the normal PS4

Not long to wait now, I am really excited for Thursday so I can give it a go, I have also ordered those move controller things so I should get the full experience

So many wires!

I started off just playing the demo disc and the first game I played was the underwater one and really enjoyed it, it felt really real and quite beautiful, I then thought I would have a go on drive club vr, I played it for around 20 seconds and felt really sick so it got switched off and I am now in bed feeling really ill :|

Some games induce motion sickness a lot more than others Richard, and you should be able to get used to being in VR, so my suggestion would be to play some less intense games and build your way up.

Avoid fast-paced games with lots of movement, and instead get used to VR from some of the demo games.

I have felt I'll all day but started to feel better so thought I would give the London heist a go and use the motion controllers for the first time, it started off well and I was really impressed with it and the loading of the gun with the two controllers was extremely satisfying, then came the car chase part! My whole head became hot, my hair was wet with sweat (I never normally sweat, especially not with me not running or it being a hot day) and about 10 minutes ago I was physically sick, I feel the most ill that I have ever felt, I know it sounds dramatic but I can not seriously thing of a time when I have felt worse, I am now in bed in the dark trying to drink plenty of water, I feel terrible and if I didn't know it was that I would be going to the doctors and that something I never need to do :(

I am having a few days off from it now to recover, I have played on it in total for around just over a hour so not that much, I may see if there is anything I can take or tips that may help with motion sickness, I did not think it would affect me as I don't suffer from anything like sea sickness, travel sickness or air sickness

Did it make you ill? Did the lenses fog up?

Edit - I have just been reading about motion sickness on the NHS website and I think I will buy some ginger biscuits and see if they help
