Oh God, Kombat Pack 2. Tri-borg and Alien gameplay looks gooseberry fool sick, they just nailed both of them so well. Also we've got the return of some classic stages, at least one shown in the trailer, the Bridge stage. Just gooseberry fool, Tri-borg Alien hype.

persona 4 arena ultimax is in the mail and will arrive on my doorstep shortly.

that should tide me over until sfv, also as I'm eton mess at fighting games my friend who is equally eton mess at fighting games also bought it so we're gonna suck at it together it's gonna be great.

maybe for once I can actually play fighting games properly and not just watch other people play.

I think its the dead online communities that mostly put me off learning to play competitively

It's always more helpful if you have a community around where you can play against others locally and ask questions if you need help with who you play. As I often find that online nd local feel different when there isn't lag that could affect your set ups and timings. Otherwise I guess its just spending tine training and then perfecting it as best you can online or set yourself goals to achieve for example only using 4 shoryukens in a round to help you develop other aspects of your main instead of always focusing on getting the Win.

Most of my practice is literally just jumping straight into online and just learning from it. Mostly just done it with MKX and it's rough. I don't really know how much I've learnt, I probably should have put more time into training to get combos down but at the same time I'd say it helps more with your fundamentals than anything else.

ultimax came today for the 2 of us.

been dicking around mostly today trying out all the characters, will go through all of the lessons tomorrow to actually learn all of the fundamentals of the game, so far I'm really liking Ken & Koromaru, Naoto is also pretty fun although I need to actually learn the headshot mechanic with the gun. Yosuke was crazy, really didn't like playing as Yu, Minazuki, Sho, or Yukari.

Surprisingly, my friend managed to figure out Junpei's baseball mechanic after just a few fights, you can tell I'm eton mess as by the end of the game he had like 27 home runs and I couldn't even touch him.

It's pretty fun atm though the inputs and combos all seem fairly straight forward once you learn them so it's a pretty good game to "start" out on. Certainly is useful to have a buddy play with you especially when you're both at the same skill level.

Naoto doesn't really have a headshot mechanic as such, you should be just be aiming to try and get the opponents Fate gauge to 0, since you can easily combo into Hamaon. Best ways to do that are to use her Megido's and canceling her grab with Crouch + Light Persona. The gun is fun, but not as abuseable as it was in Arena since you have to reload now, so don't forget to press B/O to cancel her aiming stance after your fire 5 bullets, or you're a sitting duck firing an empty gun.

Junpei's baseball mechanic is pretty simple, it's just that it takes too much effort to use, compared to other system's like Labrys' axe which is basically 'the more offensive you are the better it gets, then EX or Heavy version of Weavers Art Beast or Brutal Impact to burn it all into a 5K super'

I never bothered to learn Ken so I can't help you there

Ken's all about pincer abuse iirc, you can do the same with Akihiko but to much less of an extent and you end up leaving Caesar vulnerable. I forget what the recovery's like on Koromaru so you might be able to risk a few more unsafe attacks if he's not bound to Ken's frames.

was just calling it the headshot mechanic as I didn't know the actual name of it, but yeah, I'd like to focus on Naoto and Ken I think. Koromaru is just too good of an asset, yesterday, my friend hit Koromaru and then proceeded to push me into a corner, I used Koromaru (who was now behind my friend due to being downed) at the end of the block string to hit him from behind, and then follow up with a combo. He's great for blocking things as well!

I did play a game with Yukiko and I really liked her, but people on forums have said she's not a great character for beginners, so I'm willing to shelve her for a while until I get better.

Yeah, Yukiko becomes a lot more viable when you're able to get her timings down so you can keep the opponent at full screen using fans, maragi and the move where Konohana spins down

If you like Ken, you might like Shadow Labrys, she was a bit more advanced from what I remember, but some of the eton mess people do with her is nuts

Never really tried Ken&Koro much after seeing that they only have 2 persona cards and constantly getting persona broken im much more comfortable using shadow Rise as a main gor her rhythm game super.

Yeah but that's because Koromaru is basically an unbreakable persona, I dare say shadow Ken & Koromaru is a dick but I can't remember how well shadow chars played.

Shadow Chars in general were trash, simply because they had no Burst's and no Awakening. Literally no reason to play them outside of the unique intros and outros

Game have announced their first SFV tour. Bafflingly the qualifying round is to be played against CPU opponents in a race to five victories rather than against other people. If someone else can see the logic in this please tell me, I honestly don't get it.

We're bypassing that eton mess and running our own event in conjunction with Game, seeing as we know how to do that stuff.
