SEGA: Found out this exists - I'm very happy

Post by Cruizer » Wed Aug 05, 2015 5:19 pm

So I found this game at the weekend ( http://www.amazon.co.uk/SEGA-Mega-Drive ... B004G8QGYG ) and its great. It has like 30 classic Sega games all on one disk, I'm so happy.

Previously I only got to play Sonic when I visited my mum, then I had to get out the loft etc. But as well as Sonic, there's tons of great games I'm experiencing for the first time, Ristars good, as is vector man, I'll give the echo games a go at some point too.

Does anyone else have this? What games on it, should I play?

You only just found out about that? Where you been lol?

Altered Beast
Comix Zone
Decap Attack starring Chuck D. Head
Dynamite Headdy
Golden Axe I
Golden Axe II
Golden Axe III
Phantasy Star II
Phantasy Star III: Generations Of Doom
Phantasy Star IV: The End Of The Millennium
Ristar
Shining In The Darkness
Shining Force
Shining Force 2
Shinobi III: Return Of The Ninja Master
Streets Of Rage
Streets Of Rage 2
Streets Of Rage 3
Vectorman

Based on what I've played or just heard great things about, these are the games I'd recommend playing the most. Quite a spectacular collection tbh. Planning on picking up the PSP version soon so I can play them on the go.

I haven't played it yet, but I'll give that Decap a go at some juncture. Its meant to be a spiritual successor to a game called Psycho Fox which I really liked on the Master System ( https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psycho_Fox ) but I'm guessing no one else has heard of that game? It was great though :D

There's no bad options here. What sort of games do you like? There's everything here. The Sonic games aren't bad to start, as they're simple platforming fun. Streets of Rage 2 is the best side-scrolling beat-'em-up ever, Comix Zone is imaginative and humerous, Shinobi III is one of the more surprisingly excellent games on the disc, and the Vectorman games are as solid as any MegaMan games are. Damn I love the MegaDrive. Shame it only has Sega developed titles on (it'd be great to have titles like Aladdin, X-Men 2 and Zombies on here) but it's a great reminder just how fantastic Sega were back in the day.

I could never see from the box in store whether Dune 2 is on there. If Dune 2 is on any of these collections I'm off into town, no time to waste waiting for a mailed item if thats the case.

Shinobi III: Return Of The Ninja Master
Streets of Rage 2
Gain Ground

are the first three I would play.

As for Pscho Fox... yes I have heard of it, I own it on the master system.. awesome game even if it was a little ignored.

Altered Beast is an awful game.

Secret best game in that collection is Flicky, seriously underrated gem and Segas answer to Donkey Kong.

Some idiot on Amazon reckons Sonic is the only decent game on the disc

Sonic isn't even a good game :P.

I picked up the PSP version, which was a port of the PS2/whatever else it came out for version which doesn't have as many games as the PS3/360 versions, but I'm happy with it. I don't own a Mega Drive yet so it's nice to be able to play almost my entire list of "wanted" games for the system on a handheld.
