Favourite retro game tunes

Post by Kriken » Thu Aug 27, 2015 4:21 pm

Corneria - Starwing

I don't know why this track isn't used in other Star Fox games, if not most of them. It's great. It could have been the 'Vampire Killer' of the series.

Temple - Zelda II

I think I might prefer this to the Melee remix. I didn't really take to Zelda II's music when I played it (granted, I haven't completed it), but this stood out.

Marble Zone - Sonic 1

There are a few Sonic 1 songs I really like, but this is probably my favourite.

Stardust Speedway - Sonic CD Bad Future (JP/EU)

I haven't played this game yet but I want to play it for its music alone. So good.

Megaman 2 - Wily's Castle

Champion Blue theme - Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow

The whole game has great music, but this tune blew me away with just how unexpectedly epic and badass it was. One of my favourite final boss themes in any game.

Shoutouts to Vampire Killer as well obviously, and a ton of other stuff I forgot about... To be honest, I only really wanted to make a point about how the Corneria Theme in Star Fox should be used in later games, but didn't know where to put it and thought I may as well just make a thread about retro game music.

Killer Instinct the main theme.

There are lots of bits of game music I love but I remember my brother getting the Killer Cuts CD free with his Copy of Killer instinct and we listened to it everywhere it was the first time I really listened to music outside of its game. Now I have all kinds of bits of Video game music both direct rips and orchestral on my mobile phone and listen to it all the time.

Basically all of the dungeon themes from the two N64 Zelda games are great, but these are some of my favourites:

Also…

The Mario Kart 8 version reminded me exactly how much I loved this track.
Too many video games will make your teeth go grey.

The first ever console that I owned was the N64 but the first ever game I played was;

Alex the Kidd in Miracle World listen to it the music is just amazing - I've hardly played this game but that upbeat, fast tempo, 8 bit energy tune has stuck with me forever and to me this embodies what a game theme tune should be. Its simple but I love it :D

Also if you like old school theme tunes, you should check-out the 8 bit levels on Rayman Legends.

The whole SoR soundtrack is superb, that Yamaha sound chip in the Megadrive was excellent, love that MIDI bass.

Oh boy, I could be here a while. This is probably the slowest loading page on SONM so I'll try not to make it too much longer...

Pokemon Red/Blue Route 1

The first tune that really stood out to me and got caught in my head

Super Smash Bros. Melee - Menu 1

Iconic doesn't even begin to describe this.

Final Fantasy VI - The Decisive Battle

One of the greatest boss battle themes ever composed.

Final Fantasy VI - Dancing Mad

Except for this one of course.

Kingdom Hearts - Hollow Bastion

Fits well in with the area it plays in, giving it a very mysterious feel.

Kingdom Hearts - The Deep End

Really foreboding boss music that plays in some of the hardest battles in the game. Seriously, the boss shown in the thumbnail is ridiculously difficult...

The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker - Dragon Roost Island

Possibly my favourite track in Wind Waker

Okami - The Sun Rises

For a good period of time this was my favourite video game song of all time, but I think some stuff I've heard recently might challenge that (*cough* Xenoblade *cough*)
