What's the oldest console you've played?
The title is pretty self explanatory to be honest. So what's the oldest console you've played on? Plus I guess a bonus question is what is the oldest console you've owned? Talking about consoles here rather than an emulated game you've played.
When I visited the National Videogame Arcade in Nottingham, I played one of the many old consoles on display. I remember playing the ZX Spectrum for sure, even if I can't remember what game it was. Don't remember it being particularly fun either, but being able to play on an actual Spectrum was nice. There was another console which I'm sure was even older but can't remember what it was, I think it may have been one of the Atari consoles, possibly even the Atari 2600.
They also had a Magnavox Odyssey on display too, which was interesting to see but I'm not sure if it still worked.
The oldest console I've owned is an N64 I bought a few years ago, although I have barely played it. This reminds me I should dig it up at some point, as it came with quite a few fun games I recall. Besides the N64, the Gameboy Color would be the next oldest and I think I (literally) played it to death so it had a good life... I think, I was very young so I may not have treated it with the most respect!

Re: What's the oldest console you've played?
Probably the original Game Boy, the type that still needed 2 AA batteries to run. It's my Mum's and it's probably still sitting in my room somewhere... I distinctly remember playing Tetras Attack and asking her for help.
I also had Six Golden Coins and Super Mario Land, so whatever of this is oldest...
After that, I have 2 Game Boy colours, then 2DS's and a DSI, then obviously the 3DS. The earliest console I have is actually the Wii, although I have played a few Game cube games on its VC.

Having also visited the National Videogame Arcade I also played some old stuff there, including a very brief go on a spectrum. Oldest /console/ is a difficult one because it depends on the definition of console. The NES was the first console I played (the first game I ever played was Duck Hunt) so that is most deserving of the title, especially as it is the oldest console I own.

Re: What's the oldest console you've played?
I own a old wood Atari 2600 and have played on that almost since birth... include computers and I have a ZX81 (its one of the oldest spectrums with only the zx80 before it and the 16k and 48k etc after) I have also played on .
I have played on a Magnavox Odyssey which is older than the 2600 but dont own one I however do own a Odyssey 2.
I was nearly employed by the National Videogame arcade, it kind of grew out of a yearly video game festivel nottingham had called Game Citywhich I used to visit and blog about, My X was a Head Steward duing these festivels, One of them she came home from with a couple of hundred pounds worth of unopend sushi which was pretty awsome. I have a love hate relationship with the place though.

I know it's not a console, but for me it has to be the ZX Spectrum.
T'was a wonderful little piece of kit with tons of great games.
The oldest proper console i've ever played was the Game Boy and Megadrive, both of which i owned at roughly the same time (and i got a Super NES not long after).

Yeah, I mainly just put console in the title so it was shorter but any sort of videogame-playing home computer is also interesting to hear about.OrangeRakoon wrote:Oldest /console/ is a difficult one because it depends on the definition of console.

When I was a kid (about 9 ish) one of my friends had inherited his older brothers Atari 2600 and I remember playing on that a few times, I had a Master System at the time and wasn't very impressed with the old Atari.

Re: What's the oldest console you've played?
The first system I played on was one of the old Binatone "Pong" TV sets:

I think that must have been around 1978. In 1980 a couple of pals got an Atari VCS (2600) and, when I visited them, I enjoyed playing Combat, Adventure, Haunted House, Pac-Man and a few others.
The first machine that I owned was a Commodore VIC-20 that my family got in 1984. I was so happy with that! Some of my favourite titles were Jet Pac, Omega Race, The Perils of Willy and Pharoah's Curse. Really fun times :-).

Atari 2600 when I was at a friend's house. I played Pacman and a game called Adventure my friends thought was great. I don't agree but it was at least kind of funny. There were two key enemies, a bat that would fly around stealing things, including the items you had to pick up and sometimes the other enemy itself - the dragon - which was pretty comical. The dragon obviously just killed you.

Went to a science museum in Odaiba today and to my surprise had a temporary special exhibition on video games. Got to play on various arcade cabinets (such as Puck Man) and consoles, including Electrotennis, a pong console from 1975. Saw an Odyssey in the flesh too but was display only unfortunately.

The Atari 2600, which had some great little games. I remember getting really far on Moon Patrol...

Did you know that the original name for Pac-Man was Puck-Man? You'd think it was because he looks like a hockey puck but it actually comes from the Japanese phrase 'Paku-Paku,' which means to flap one's mouth open and closed. They changed it because they thought Puck-Man would be too easy to vandalize, you know, like people could just scratch off the P and turn it into an F or whatever.Jezo wrote:Went to a science museum in Odaiba today and to my surprise had a temporary special exhibition on video games. Re: What's the oldest console you've played?
I think its a Commodore VIC 20 off the top of my head but I'm going to a retro gaming even this weekend where I could end up playing on something even older.
