The Taito Thread of Kwaii

Post by Dig Dug » Sun Nov 23, 2014 9:07 pm

I really like Taito games, like really like them. Yesterday I got my hands on this:

And then I proceeded to play for the first time a little game called Puchi Carat

It's an absolutely awesome game, it's like Breakout crossed with Puzzle Bobble (another Taito game).

I like Taito and what they did. I like Space Invaders, Bubble Bobble, Rastan, Don Doko Don and PuLiRuLa. I think the company made great, simple games and they never changed what they did no matter how the industry changed. It's sad the company now only exists as part of Square Enix where they only really create remakes of their old games.

Taito made some amazing games during that era, Bubble Bobble was my absolute favourite, though i also really enjoyed Rainbow Islands, The New Zealand Story, Arkanoid, and Chase HQ.

Chase HQ so needs a modern update, doesnt have to be a full disc game but like a 8 to 12quid Xbox live/PSN style game would do a treat.

I played the Master System versions of Chase HQ and SCI to death and still have the carts

Taito Legends 1 and 2 are the next games on my want list. Wasn't until recently when I saw a video on them that I really knew about Taito and the games on the collections. DO WANT.

Taito Legends on PSP is pretty darn cool, just saying as I know you have a PSP.

Are there any differences between the PS2 and PSP versions? I know that the Xbox and PS2 versions of the second collection have a couple of different games on em.

Diffrent games basically...

On ps2 and Xbox there are 2 legends/collection discs with about 25 games on them.... the psp one has 21 games randomly selected some from 1 set some from the other and then 4 psp sort of remix versions of 4 titles.

The psp one includes

Space Invaders
Space Invaders Part 2
New Zealand Story
Phoenix
Alpine Ski
Elevator Action
Crazy Balloon
Chack n` Pop
Lunar Rescue
Balloon Bomber
Legend of Kage
The Fairyland Story
Rastan Saga
Raimais
Cameltry
Qix
Kiki Kaikai
Kuri Kinton
Return of the Invaders
Space Dungeon
Space Chaser
Balloon Bomber Enhanced
Cameltry Enhanced
Crazy Balloon Enhanced
Legend of Kage Enhanced.

I know TAITO Legends 2 on the ps2 and Xbox had like 4 games that were ps2 and 4 games that were xbox exclusive so to have every game youd have to buy both...

There good discs but to get every game is a bit of a cluster f' .. So maybe just go for what you can find cheap.

Will add the PSP version to my ever growing list haha. Already been eyeing up the PS2 version of 1 and 2, and the Xbox version of 2. Can get all 3 for around £12 I reckon.

The only game shops in my town are Game (which is utter eton mess and their pre-owned stuff is more expensive than brand new stuff online lol, and they don't do any games before the PS3/Wii/360 generation), and CEX. And I've cleared CEX of all their good stuff. They never seem to have anything new, so I tend to buy on their site.

However I am going into Doncaster later this week and they have a couple other shops including Granger, but in all the times I've been in there I question how they ever make money because they are a complete rip off lol.

Our local granger is great lots cheaper than game... yeah its new games but the best recent example I have.
My fiancee wanted Far Cry 4 and Watchdogs for her XBOX One didnt care if they were new or second hand just wanted them cheap..

Games price second hand watchdog 15quid, second hand farcry 4 25

Granger watchdog 10quid, farcry 4 15

I have got quiet a few psp games from there as well for around the 3 pound mark, in fact I got the collectors Edition of Final Fantasy 4 complete second hand for 4 pounds.

Never looked for PSP games when I've been in before since I didn't own one at the time. Hopefully they'll have some good deals when I go :P.

Absolutely adore New Zealand Story, a really cute and fun game. Bubble Bobble's pretty good too (though whenever I play it I'm reminded of b*******y...)
