Anyone else feeling apathetic?
Yeah, for the first year or perhaps just to the greatest extent in my life I just couldn't really care less about the festivities this year. A mix of this year being eton mess and a very busy beginning in January with moving in and starting my Masters and impending resignation from my job has left me more or less drained of merriment and I'm just looking forward to a couple of weeks rest. Wondering if anyone else is feeling particularly Grinchy or if you usually do? I figured this would be the perfect thread to start this sub section.

But nah, I am probably more excited than usual this year. We had fake christmas here in my shared rented house yesterday, and it was brilliant. Drank all day, had an amazing Christmas dinner, did secret santa, played charades and pictionary, and watched films and listened to Christmas music.
Going to be eating turkey for a week now though

I've pretty much come to expect a constant stream of disappointment in my life, and Christmas is no different. It just seems kinda...meh. Good excuse to eat lots of food and get eton mess-faced though.

Re: Anyone else feeling apathetic?
Contrary to what I expected, I haven't actually grown apathetic towards Christmas. I've long since stopped caring about what I've got - more just appreciating the sentiment of getting a gift - but still, walking around during this Christmas time, I can't help but get into the spirit of it. The air is nice and cool, town is bustling with people, and I can visit my family and goof around with them with bad films and games without needing a reason to because the reason is Christmas. And most people I know seem happier during this time as well, and that makes me happy.

No, I'm feeling pretty good because I'm a minor so my parents still buy me expensive things (sometimes) and I am also an chelsea bun so I don't buy other people presents (I have no money or steady source of income either)
Also food will be good
The constant Christmas films will not be good tho

Re: Anyone else feeling apathetic?
Yep, normally I kind of revert back to a child around Christmas, get really exited over getting together with family and I would often get money for Christmas which would mean I can go out and buy something new.
But this last year has been different, I have been feel like eton mess all year and my life has gone nowhere since last year, my family are just going to sit around judging me and asking me questions about what I'm going to do with my life, and I am going to have to pretend to actually be happy for the sake of those around me.
I am dreading Christmas because I am the failure of the family and my family will let me know that.
Also with my part time job bringing in more money a week that I normally get for Christmas, I've pretty much brought everything I wanted lol.
At least I can get everyone somewhat decent presents.
Also the "Christmas hype" has started way to early, it get earlier every year, even worse when my sisters seemed to start the cont down to Christmas on boxing day last year, all I've heard all year is my sisters going on about gooseberry fool Christmas.
At least it's now acceptable to drink all day and listen to Fairytale of New York on repeat, so I got that going for me.

I look forward to christmas more and more every year even though it objectively doesn't really deserve such hype.

This is maybe the first year I'm not apathetic. I still don't care for it but I am looking forward to a curry on the 25th.

Re: Anyone else feeling apathetic?
The people I'm going to for Christmas are having a family wedding thingy on the 27th where the meal is a Christmas dinner. So instead of having two lots of traditional dinners they're throwing curries at us.Chocolate-Milk wrote:What is it with people going for a curry on Christmas DayMet wrote:This is maybe the first year I'm not apathetic. We're going to have a smaller one at some point, but this makes a nice change I guess.

It's my favourite time of year. Everywhere always looks so pretty when the decorations and lights are up.
Add snow to it and it's pretty much heaven for me.

I love Christmas, and this year will be more special because I've been away at uni, so I'll come home after exams and festive cheer can begin. Woo.

Take me where I cannot stand
I don't care
I'm still free
You can't take the Christmas Spirit from me

That would make for an amazing Christmas. Not that my family would ever do it...Chocolate-Milk wrote:What is it with people going for a curry on Christmas DayMet wrote:This is maybe the first year I'm not apathetic. I still don't care for it but I am looking forward to a curry on the 25th.

Re: Anyone else feeling apathetic?
Sure, if they didn't go to a eton mess curry house with like three options for the main besides the traditional turkey.
I mean the poppadoms are lovely to start with, but still. Between that place and a traditional Christmas dinner, I'd cook the whole damn thing myself if I had to.

Re: Anyone else feeling apathetic?
3rd, maybe 4th Christmas where I really don't care. 2nd where I'd actually rather it didn't happen and try to argue for the 25th to be a normal-ish day. I suppose it won't be as terrible if we don't have family staying again. But no idea what's happening on that front. A quiet Christmas is all I want really. Never had one before. It sounds nice.
Also first year where I have to worry about the cost. And based on how much it usually costs, I reckon my bank account will be empty come January. So yeah, gooseberry fool Christmas.
Well, there is that 11 year old Christmas CD I have which I'll get to listen to. I like the stuff on there...

Re: Anyone else feeling apathetic?
I love Christmas. My mam always used to make it feel so special and i think we've done a pretty good job since she's gone. Problem this year is that right now i have some horrible pains which needs to be sorted. If i can sort that by Christmas then i'm happy. My illness has taught me to appreciate what i can do and enjoy that

Re: Anyone else feeling apathetic?
I'm normally apathetic about Christmas until the 24th-ish, and then I go all hyper "I LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS" sort of thing.
I like the idea that there's a time of year particularly set aside for people to show their love for one another in a lot of overt ways as well.
