Describe your best Christmas memories.

Post by Marmitecashews » Thu Dec 03, 2015 2:34 pm

For me it would have to be the early Christmases. My grandmother use to live in Weston-Super-mere and every Christmas we use to go and stay there. I remember one early Christmas eve where I was so excited and thinking about Santa Claus at the same time as eating a pack of beef and onion crisps. It's a simple memory that reminds me how magical Christmas use to feel and until I was around eleven every Christmas felt as magical as that one.

Also just after Christmas between the day after boxing day and new years eve we use to visit my mum's dad and before opening the presents we use to sing Christmas Carols. Which also added to that magical feeling of the Christmas holidays. I really miss the magical feeling of those early Christmases.

All of my "best Christmas memories" are to do with presents because I'm a selfish chelsea bun.

Seriously though back in '07 my parents bought me a Wii with a eton mess movie tie-in, I was pretty happy.

I already wrote a big post in the best Christmas presents thread but it basically boils down to playing with my cousins.

Well as I don't really have much of an extended family most of my memories were with my immediate family, now just literally my parents and siblings. We'd always get up stupidly early when we were all younger, wake the parents up and rush off downstairs to open the presents and then my parents would head off to cook dinner while we watched Christmas TV and played with anything we got. We then had a great Christmas dinner and then normally played a board game after the table had been cleared.

Now we just get up when we want (for some reason I always find myself watching The Gruffalo on a Christmas morning, it's normally on anyway) then we open presents, have dinner, then do what we want, don't tend to get a new board game anymore to play round the table anymore.

I generally have fond memories of Christmas when I was younger and living in the USA, once I came here I started getting less for Christmas and generally it lost its excitement and eton mess, so I care less now
One memory that stands out to me in particular is when I saw someone putting presents under the tree. I thought Santa was a big black man for many years, but I later realised that I had just seen my father

In 2005, St Stephen's Day. Had to spend the day in my room so I sneaked out the window and played Wind Waker at my friend's house.
Ironically, given the water theme of that game, that was the day that I learnt what a tsunami was (Bangladesh) Shrek was on RTE that day as well.

It was a cold winters night, as cold as could be
Not a console was whirring, not even a Wii
The nun chuks were hung by controllers, with care
In case of Wii Sports Resort right then and there

Adults were sipping on booze, cracking jokes
While a couple of guests had popped out for some smokes
I had on my dressing gown, my wife had hers too
"Data downloaded" to which I said "phew"

My main christmas memories are from around 1990-93.

For most of those years i always received an absolute ton of Lego which was awesome, though '92 was particularly memorable as i received my first ever games console (Megadrive with Sonic 1 and 2) and a VCR (with The Addams Family and TMNT 2: Secret of the Ooze).

'95 also sticks out in my mind as i was given a PS1.
