Has there been any word on what the Guardians actually are? I missed the first hour or so of gameplay, but they seem to just be hanging around, and deal enough damage to make Hero mode with Ganon amiibo blush.

All three new amiibo look really cool. Limiting myself to just one though, it'll be the giant enemy crab - not only is it poseable, but it's the most aesthetically appealing to me.

They did show a bit of a dungeon earlier, about 2 & 1/2 hours into the stream? Looked like one of the mini dungeons.

Edit, was about 1 hour and 15 mins ago.

So apparently there's no towns in the game, so really going back to the original Zelda in that respect.

this is what is pissing me off to the extreme about nintendo, i just need anouma to start screaming AND IT'S AVAILABLE TO PRE ORDER.... RIGHT NOW at the screen and all will be golden.

was kinda wondering how the currency system/buying & selling would work as we haven't (to my knowledge) seen any rupees, but there was a 'you can sell this' pop up in an item description earlier, so i'm guessing it'll just be wandering salesmen a lá beedle

Sounds probable, that or just merchants set up in a cave or something again like the original. Might see some small hub areas too in the same breath, just without the banner of being a town.

The more I see of this game, the more it stands out as a very radical evolution of the standard Zelda formula. My only worry is that becuase it's so different to previous games that people might not like it because of it, but I like what they are trying to do. I do get the feeling Aonuma is trying to make a Zelda game that has the same impact that Ocarina of Time had and in recent years he's probably decided that the formula had become stale and needed freshening up. Effectively combining the essense of the original game with aspects of modern open world games seems like a great game in the making.

Actually, I can see some similarities in world design with Horizon at Sony's conference yesterday, even moreso that both games seem to share a survival similarity.

Eh, it's going to sell well and this game will shift NXs, it looks great, it looks like it's full of so much and I'm sure it'll have an interesting story direction when people get into it. It's already got people really hooked and it already has people saying it's terrible and I've no problem with that, no reason to be worried about it, you just shouldn't care that it's not for everyone.

Is it actually using a similar map from the very first Legend of Zelda game as well? When the latest section started on the treehouse they compared the two games with the artwork from the NES game of link on a cliff edge looking at mountains in the distance to the first cliff edge you see in BotW after leaving the cave.

Well all the games have adopted variations of similar maps, Hyrule's topography has remained reasonably static for the most part.

Only if you have all the runes needed though, if you don't I think it marks the required runes on your map.

the only thing i'm worried about is the barren world; yeah it looks super pretty and i'm sure it'll be lovely and pretty and charming and stuff, but the lack of towns/NPCs makes me worry that it'll feel a little dull and lifeless once the initial WOW IT'S PRETTY LET'S GO CHOP SOME TREES DOWN grandeur wears off. i mean yeah, a lot of the NPCs in past zeldas have only existed to say eton mess like HEY THERE'S A SHOP THERE THAT SELLS THINGS, but it made the world feel a little more alive at least.

Eh, they've done open sprawling worlds with sparse content pretty well in the past with things like Wind Waker so I don't doubt that they can find some way to bring it to life.

Seeing this segment, I find myself wondering how much time I'll devote to hunting/foraging opposed to following the actual plot.

Although with Wind Waker there was other life in the world, on Windfall and Outset ect, whereas here, there's absolutely no evidence of that.

We've seen so much yet it's still so little compared to what the rest of the game has in store. Only gripe so far is durability on Weapons. I guess the plus side of it is that it directs you to try more types of weapons and shields.

Hope this no Town thing isn't true tho. What the heck.

I didn't say they'd do it in the same way though? They're avoiding making settlements so obviously similar things aren't coming back but the comparison is that Wind Waker is a large, sprawling world with sparse content found purely in concentrated areas with nothing around for the most part. Given we've only seen what looks to be a reasonably limited amount of the world going by the map I see no reason to suspect that there's not going to be plenty to do and see to keep exploration interesting.

it's a nintendo game so i've no doubt that they'll find a way to pack plenty of quality into the quantity, but i'm just hoping there are some sort of settlements, wind waker was good but the whole constant travelling in a mostly empty sea didn't sit well with me, although i guess having an actual landscape this time around nullifies the travelling gripe.
