In all seriousness though, this really, really blows! I was expecting an NX port/version anyway, but that's why I figured the delay was until later this year as it was. To push it back to 2017... It's feels like they're taking the mick a bit here, I remember when I was pumped and ready for the original release last year in 2015!

Still, I guess we at least have the GameCube remakes, which I'm certain makes Nintendo feel less guilty. On the plus it can only further to polish and enrich the game as well I suspect. Even though TP was delayed for the exact same reasons for a dual release it ended up getting more content further down the line than originally planned. So it could still work to our favour.

Definitely sticking with the WiiU version first though and will wait with baited breath about the NX port, it worked out well for me last time anyway.

Okay so the way they worded everything is making people think Zelda U won't be launch title. Because it wasn't mentioned anywhere. Even seeing stuff about it potentially being released late 2017. I guess we have to wait till E3 to really know.
I am the reason, the answer and the problem.

Yeah I notice how they didn't say specifically that it wasn't going to be released in March. If it's not a launch title, what was the point in delaying it? They could have released it on the Wii U on time and spent all that considerable effort on a new title entirely at some stage during the NX's lifespan.

That's a fair point actually, March has only been mentioned with the NX launch.

It would make sense to have it as a launch title though, so I'm not too worried. Let's not have a 3 year delay please, you could have made two zelda games in that time.

Not having it for Launch would be a big hit to it's library. Kimishima said they delayed the launch in favour of having more games. I hope that includes Zelda U.

Zelda Wii U best release before Christmas 2017, considering it'll have been in development from early 2012 (at the absolute latest) I reckon they're sitting on the finished Wii U version purely waiting for the NX so it can be a dual release. I'd be pretty annoyed if it did launch Christmas 2017, 6 years after Skyward Sword launched.

I've just had a rather long rant about today's events, which has quite literally been copy pasted over but the points are still valid.
I honestly think today has seen some of Nintendo's biggest mistakes. First off, no NX at E3. On one hand, I can understand this, it allows for a greater focus on other games, and gives the "illusion" that they're not letting the Wii U die just yet. However, we also know that the only playable game at E3 is... a title also available on NX.
~
Also the fact that Zelda U/NX means that the Wii U is the first and only Nintendo console not to have its own Zelda game (excluding remakes). This is basically Nintendo saying "This is a failure, we apologise to everyone who bought it let's just forget about it and move on". Which is fine... if you didn't buy it. There's now however many Wii U owners sitting out there who could quite easily have skipped this gen and missed out on... not very much? Smash 4 is on 3DS, Splatoon and MK8 I could understand, they're great games.
~
Let's talk about hype for a sec too. Unless you've been under a rock for the last few months, you'll have seen the NX rumours floating around. Rumours are good, they build excitement and hype for the eventual release. Unless of course, they die before the release. In this case, rumours will pretty much be dead by June/July, leaving little to no hype for NX release in March. Like I said, it's a good thing, but only if it can last until the release.
~
Also it's ridiculous that Zelda U has now been delayed for 2 years I genuinely wouldn't have minded a release now on Wii U then another on NX in a year's time but whatever go ahead and port it.

I reckon they're using the extra time they have to polish it.

Yeah they'll be polishing it, probably could still be in a perfectly playable state where it could release this year for the Wii U though, appeasing the Wii U fans somewhat and it could then see a release on the NX when that launches next March for people who don't have a Wii U but are thinking about getting the NX, a new Zelda game would be a big draw for them.

I was going to say to delay it for NX only to not release alongside it would be pretty silly, where is this coming from anyway? Nintendo have told us March with the NX, and recently stated in their annual review that Zelda is coming in March 2017. No reason to think otherwise now (then again, we thought that the last 2 times haha...)

Gutted it's not this year still, plus it's the 30th Anniversary and all. It's not like TP:HD or HW:Legends were even branded with that either.

I think they made the right call if it's going to be a launch title.

Well if it's any consolation, ZeldaU has been confirmed for a March 2017 release, which means it's almost definitely a launch title.

You don't think to bridge the gap till Zelda Wii U, Ninty will release a HD version of Skyward Sword?

I have actually been thinking of this as well, depends if they want to redo to controls to suit a control method without motion controls (well gyro aiming for the other items could be kept in with using the gamepad). The Wii U needs something other than Paper Mario Colour Splash for Christmas 2016.

Dunno how they'd do Skyward Sword's swordplay on WiiU, unless it has a Revengeance-esque blade mode

Never say never, Sony/Naughty Dog released The Last of Us on PS4 a year after the PS3 version. The Wii U kind of needs at least another title to try and get a somewhat decent holiday sales, even if just for software (as lets face it the Wii U will probably struggle to hit the 800,000 units Nintendo have predicted considering the lack of software for the rest of its life), it might not be Skyward Sword that gets the HD treatment but I'm thinking something will, although considering its Zelda they've just delayed again they may feel Skyward Sword HD would be one of the better options to re-release. They could always give people an option of still using the Wii mote/nunchuck so it offers the same experience as first time round.
