In recent years I remember 2012 being pretty boring.

That's easy. Whatever year it was with Wii Music and that God awful woman flogging Frisbee with that dog on the beach.

Which was the year with that awful woman and the vitality sensor? That was dire...

The year where Tropical Freeze was the biggest news was a bit of a let-down too.

The year which also gave us a reveal trailer for Mario Kart 8, and Sm4sh - 2 of the biggest games on the Wii U? I thought that was easily one of Nintendo's best years at E3.

I'd say 2015, show wise the games they were showing were very boring. Star Fox was really the only thing that interested me last year.

I don't didn't think any E3 could be more barebones than 2015, so I'll go with that... for now.

SONM's Least Favourite E3! + New Topic

Post by GuitarHero » Wed Jun 08, 2016 10:01 pm

Majin_Nephets wrote:Ah, I'd forgotten that. My vote is for whichever year revealed the vitality sensor, anyway.
To be fair, apart from the vitality sensor, we got: SMG 2, NSMB Wii, TLoZ:ST, M&L:BiS and Scribblenauts. A pretty good year games-wise. With this poll, I now realise its probably easier to choose individual moments rather than whole years but oh well.

2011 was quite bad as I remember people getting confused whether the Wii U was just an add-on or not (I thought it was clear, but oh well) after the annoucement. 2015 was a let-down in the games department, with Mario Maker probably being the highlight.

However, 2008 has to be the worse. When your big game is Wii Music, you know it's not a good sign. One of a few games I regret owning.
Nintendo seem to swing between amazing and terrible when it comes to E3. I would say let's hope for something amazing this year, but if they follow their released plan then there isn't really anything to talk about... Anyway, the losers are...
2008 & 2015!
ImageImage
Two years that failed to hold up to expectations - mainly due to the games or lack thereof.

Here's what some of you said about it...
imbusydoctorwho wrote:2008, I remembered there was hardly any announcements and most of Nintys E3 was spent talking about Wii Music.

Hopefully there will be some surprises from Nintendo this year!

Right, let's go to an always popular topic - Zelda. The question being...
Which title theme is your favourite from the Legend of Zelda main series?
Image
Any title theme from the games will do, this video (I think) has all of them.

Some of the most iconic music from gaming has originated from the Zelda series, featuring a wide range of styles to choose from too. There is almost certainly something you'll recognise, even if you're not a Zelda fan - it's just that good.

The first music you'll hear when you start up a game is usually the title screen, which can help to build your anticipation up that little bit further before you've even begun playing. Sometimes you'll just find yourself waiting and listening to the whole piece just because it's so darn good.

So the question is, from the Zelda main series, which title theme is your favourite?

Please just choose one remember.

Re: NintenPolls - Zelda: Tip-Top Title Themes!

Post by H.Kazuhira » Wed Jun 08, 2016 10:21 pm

So many iconic themes but I think Skyward Sword tops my list of favourites. It's just so goddamn epic and captures that Zelda spirit so well. I used to listen to extended versions of it back in the day which would always pump me full of inspiration for when I was drawing a lot. Ocarina of Time and Twilight Princess come close to the top of my list too. Great themes which set the tone of the games.
I am the reason, the answer and the problem.

Skyward Sword shouldn't really be here seeing as the main theme isn't even in the title screen.

It's Ocarina though.

"I think you'll find I'm incredibly mature for an 11 year old ect"*

I prefer Wind Waker's cause it's more traditional style, and generally more interesting than Ocarina's solo piano. It probably also has something to do with the fact that I don't particularly like OoT in general.

*I feel like I should clarify this is actually a joke, unlikely as it sometimes seems...

Difficult to chose as they're all pretty great and suit their specific games, but I'm going to go with Spirit Tracks which I think has a really underrated soundtrack - and the main theme evokes the game's atmosphere perfectly.
Ever since joining the original ONM I've been a huge Nintendo fan (specifically Zelda) and am looking forward to some great discussions. I was previously known as Lego Master

Stuck between Skyward Sword and Wind Waker, both have fantastic title themes in my opinion but I think I'll side with Skyward Sword on this occasion.

SONM's Favourite Zelda Title Theme! + New Topic

Post by GuitarHero » Sun Jun 12, 2016 8:46 pm

I'm not a big Zelda fan at all, but one thing I definitely do appreciate from the series is the music. My favourite title theme is Ocarina of Time too, just a great piece. I even had a go myself on piano... [/plug]

Zelda has some great themes to choose from, so nice to see a tight poll. Could've gone to a few games, it was close. However, there is one winner and that winner is...
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time!
Image
A great game that always ranks high on people's lists of their absolute favourite Zelda games, all the individual parts of Ocarina of Time also score highly too.

Here's what some of you said about it...
OrangeRakoon wrote:Ocarina, easily. It's iconic.

I feel like we'll have more music polls at some point, as its something I've neglected so far.

Time to return to Mario once again. Let's talk about hub worlds too, as why not. The question is...
What hub world from the Mario series is your favourite?
Image
This is including hub worlds from any Mario game, so including hubs from Paper Mario and the RPGs too.

A while ago, level select screens seemed to be a thing of the past for platformers. Super Mario 64 came along and decided rather than use a traditional level select screen, why not run around and find the levels for yourself? After this, a few games started to use this new way of thinking.

However, after a while in the main games, Mario no longer got to run around a world going from level to level. Like many things in the video game industry, it was cyclical. Does that mean we'll have a hub world again at some point? Most likely.

Some may not like hub worlds at all. However, I feel that the majority do. So which Mario hub world is your favourite?

Please just choose one remember.

Re: NintenPolls - Mario: Super Hub Worlds!

Post by Kriken » Sun Jun 12, 2016 9:41 pm

Tough choice between Super Mario 64's and Galaxy's. 64's is so iconic and I like the variety and scale. It never felt like a drag having to travel between the levels.

Meanwhile Galaxy's is cool because it's a space station and has Rosalina in it. I also like the small changes to it over time, like how the toad brigade and Luigi are added to it after you encounter them in the levels. Being able to fly around it later on is cool too.

However I think I'll go for 64's because of the personal touches like having the clock level portal actually be the face of a clock, and making it so the time on the clock as you enter the level determines its pace.

Props to Sunshine's hub world as well. The 3D Mario series really nails it with them. I can't think of another game series that has done them nearly as well - except for maybe Spyro.

Sunshine. Just looks great and there's a lot to discover. Galaxy's was good but there just wasn't enough to discover. Props to 64 though because that one was also good.

Sunshine just dominates it though. Probably the biggest and most expansive hub world, with the most little secrets. Really worked amazingly, and the setting itself was superb.

But I guess Mario 64, the castle is pretty much perfect at what it does

Delfino Plaza. The hub world was vibrant, there were various secrets within the area and you also get to ride Yoshi around the plaza which tbh is the main reason I'm voting for this.
