So... um... A certain... site, has added Cappy to their logo, saying to enjoy Odyssey when you hover over it.
That just seems strange.

Can you actually collect everything in the Cappy Kingdom on your first visit (well technically revisit), I've had another brief look around tonight and there doesn't seem to be much to collect, I have a few moons and about 40 of the unique purple coins. Just wondering if I should persevere or come back later.....

Anyway I'll be starting the Sand Kingdom shortly (although probably not tonight), looking forward to it :)

Some of the music in this game is just magical. There's comments on Youtube about how Nintendo topped Jump Up, Super Star with an even better version that plays during the New Donk City festival, which itself is a magical thing. Then... Well. I'm not saying anything, but the ending possibly tops that moment.
The game itself is great in general, and I could possibly see myself replaying the entire game again, just to experience some of those moments. Of course, there's still quite a bit I'm yet to experience from this main playthrough.

This game is quite good isn't it.

Mario feels so good to play, the moveset is fantastic. Using the hat throw to change direction mid-air and stringing together jump->walljump->hat throw->dive->hat jump->hat throw->dive is oh so satisfying. And sequence breaking. I absolutely love how much good platforming can get you around so many obstacles in this game. For example, in the lake kingdom, you can get up the cliff (later where the stairs will be rebuilt) by hat diving from a jump off the top of a pillar, skipping the tunnel entirely. In any other game I would feel like I'm abusing and breaking it, but in Odyssey I feel like it's an expected consequence of Mario's impressive moveset. New Donk City is an absolute goldmine for walljumping and hat diving and I love it.

After the first week of getting my Switch I've been 100% handheld, but I've gone back to docked for Mario. Split joycon is the definitive way to play this game - the extra motion controls just bring a quality of life that is strikingly missing when I try to play the game handheld, which is unfortunate but worth accepting. If you haven't tried it out I implore you to do so - although you may struggle to go back.

My only real criticism would be that the starting worlds seem like some of the weakest. I'll come back to rank them properly once I've got through the entire game (I've just done the seaside and snow kingdoms), but those earlier worlds will probably end up around the bottom. The seaside kingdom would have made a much better opening world imo.

Just started the Metro kingdom with around 80 moons, really enjoying certainly the best Mario game since Galaxy.

Finally got around to starting the Sand Kingdom this evening, it's huge compared to the Cascade Kingdom. Trying to get through the signposted Moons as I'm hoping that'll make the various ice blocks around the Kingdom melt and open up some more moons for collection.

Also, who defines a game's rating by how quickly they finished it?
It should be the experience that counts, and how much replayability it has.

One thing I'm not sure about is that while they have removed the life system for simple retries which is in line with how other platformers of the type have gone, I'm not convinced that 10 coins is big enough a penalty. I'm in New Donk City right now and have over 2000 coins, with plenty of money to buy the things I'm interested in, as a consequence dying doesn't seem to be too big a penalty unless this coin count is supposed to be along the lines of having loads and loads of lives. It's a minor nitpick in the grand scheme of things, but still one I'm not too sure about.

The life system has been pointless in Mario for a long time, I think it was a good move to remove it. The coin penalty serves its purpose as a "penalty", and I think it's much better than being actually harsh/impacting. By the time you hit post-game the number of things to buy outpaces the speed at which you accumulate coins, and you will probably die a lot more due to the harder challenges, so I think it hits the balance well.

Losing coins is a much better substitute to losing lives as lives as coins have a point and monetary value, where lives have been pointless in Mario games for years now.

Just about to leave the Lunchbox Kingdom and ready to the next kingdom, I've got nearly 200 moons but I will be going back to older kingdoms to try and find all of them.

Does anyone know how to get the dog statue/figure that can be seen in the odyssey. My son spotted it online and now that's all he goes on about. Had a quick Google and found nothing. Thanks on advance

Managed to get a couple more hours into Mario Odyssey last night, got to around 40 moons collected from the Sand Kingdom (as well as 4 more purple coins, making my total around 80 now), think I may move onto the Wooded Kingdom when I next load it up. However Doom has arrived so its currently installing so I'm waiting for that to finish before slaying some demons.

thanks, I'll have to double check his save file as I'm sure he has already done as you suggest and still doesn't have it

I should probably clarify. My post wasn't to say I was against the removal of lives, in actuality I think removal of the life system is something that has needed to be done for a long time, I just felt that the replacement system seemed a bit too lenient. Outside of boss fights I think dying has more situations where it's more useful, I'm not ever so sure that flinging yourself into a pit or over lava, collecting the purple coins/small moons in the process and being allowed to keep them after you respawn

Really though, that's all I have to say against the game and it's so incredibly minor. Love absolutely everything else about the game and just finished it. The finale was so cool...
I love how pretty much every previous Mario game is referenced during this custscene

Poor Mario though, getting rejected by Peach at the end of the game. Not even wearing underwear to the wedding could convince her...
