God-damn Hedlok. Dunno how many times I just continually lost to it, but I finally managed to beat it.
Thing to remember is take your time. Unlike other matches, there's no time limit for that fight.

I'm not familiar with how frequent Splatoon had it's updates, but if we're already getting a new Fighter next month that gives me hope ARMS will be getting them regularly too.
I am the reason, the answer and the problem.

Anyone else using motion controls. I'm struggling to win any bouts on level3, my sideways movement and arm movement just don't seem to be quick enough. Anyone found the button method giving better results?

finally finished level 5 of the grand prix which was rather tricky!

finding online ranked matches far tougher than the testpunch though!

love the game however

To be fair, it's not that remarkable when all the fighter's data was in the shipped product to begin with. I'm willing to bet that the stuff is already in the game and that it'll just be a tiny download to patch it in so that you can actually select them.

Really, that should have been ready and in the final product. It's bizarre to think that it isn't.

This is a means to generate excitement after the game has already been released. When a new update drops, it's going to be an event within the fanbase. Also because it's free that means everyone can join in which is pretty smart imo.

Played it with my friend yesterday and had great fun, but we both switched to normal controls over the motion pretty quick. It'll be fun to use motion controls with lots of people round, but for more competitive play not so much. Whenever we got the chance to be together on a 2v2 online we only managed to lose one match which was interesting. Shame there isn't a way to choose a specific mode online, though guessing you can possibly do that with friends online? IDK.

But today I went into ranked matches and got up to level 8 so far. I've had some fantastic fun and some intense matches. Really satisfying feeling winning a tough match, especially in this game as I feel really in control of what I'm doing that I can try and think my way around an opponent. Also, been maining Ribbon Girl carrying over from the Test Punch.

If anyone wants to play some matches sometime online, I'm up for that. If enough people have the game maybe a mini tournament even? Probably would be a round robin sort of thing. I'm definitely up for that at least!

I jumped pretty quick from Ninjara to Byte and Barq, as the latter offers a bit more power.
However, I'm gonna go through every character on level 2 to see which I feel comfortable with most [though that's probably still going to be the one I'm using now].

In answer to the question posed by the thread title, the honest answer is 'no' at the moment. I'm having to unlearn a lot of fighting game behaviour and come up with useful strategies at the same time, and I'm not sure I have the patience any more. I will definitely persevere, though.

Funnily enough, the only character who ever gave me trouble while playing as Byte and Barq was Ninjara, so it definitely does seem as though each character has those who they will have advantages and disadvantages with.

Yeah, I can understand that. It definitely takes some adjustment, and it's probably a good thing I haven't really played many fighters before then! What controls are you using?

Haven't been able to put much time in since I'm catching up on all the E3 stuff. I'm soloing Twintelle for now and it's been really fun learning more about this game the more I play. Only gripe so far is the lack of options to button map controls >,> Not a fan on blocking with the right stick. At first I thought it was pretty neat. But I've messed up many attempts with blocks which have cost me games. They seem to be listening with feedback so hopefully we get the option in the near future.

If they are listening, I hope they allow for motion controls to be turned off so you don't get messed up when using the two Joy-Con.
And yeah, button mapping would be great, especially if it allows us to place block on A or B.

After having hot to rank 8 the first day I played, I don't think I've won a match at all recently. Just getting bodied by everybody, as they seem to have a key strategy they always go for which I don't have as I've just been reacting off them to try and beat them but that's now failing. Pretty disheartening to keep losing, but I need to adapt and probably try a new character as I feel the ground game is the most important part now.

Coudln't agree more. It's just an unusual game in this regard - constantly changing strategies every day now!

Wish there was a ranked mode for hoops as well as i'm fairly sure i would be very high there!

Yeah, would definitely like to see (probably unranked) modes online where you can choose something specific. Or maybe create a lobby similar to the party lobby where someone has control over what appears, just something to give more control.

Not used anything but motion controls yet, think it's all random waggling to be honest. Win some, lose a lot more. Getting frustrating already, and only on 3 difficulty.

Cannot win a single match at level four difficulty. Enjoyment sapping rather rapidly with it now.

Swap to normal controls - seriously. While shielding can be a problem, if you can dodge or counter effectively, it matters little.

I love the fun of motion controls but use buttons now if I go online as I feel it's the only chance I have to win occasionally. If I'm just playing by myself still use motion as it was the fun of throwing my arms about that drew me into the game.

Seven attempts at getting a hit in on Spring Man on 3 difficulty, all failed. Safe to say this game is going back on the shelf and will be lucky to ever come off it again.
