Re: ARMS - Test Punches Complete! Will you get it?

Post by imbusydoctorwho » Mon Jun 05, 2017 1:38 pm

Got a chance to play the test punch on Saturday and I came back rather impressed, I tried the motion controls and they were a bit okay but I much preferred playing with one joy con on it's side. Playing online was incredibly smooth and the modes are quite varied and fun.

Still not sure if it's worth £45-£50 when there's much better value games on the market.

I won't just be sticking to 1v1 fights like I do in Smash.
I can't even imagine playing smash like this
I just wasn't all that interested in the extra stuff in Smash 4. Felt like I have already played them because of past games. Was super bummed with the lack of a Target Test mode too.

ARMS has been getting some good reviews. May sway me to eventually get it.

Certainly some very solid scores, guess the free dlc has helped eased the nerves of the lack of content in the game.

Yeah, its reviewed pretty well which is great. A fair few legitimate complaints brought up by the reviews as well such as the lack of single player content, which I hope they address at some point. However, will definitely be getting it now and pretty stoked for it. I've been seeing a lot of push for it advertising-wise as well, as a lot of people have been posting gameplay videos of it along with actual ads too. Will be interesting to see how well it does

Great to see the overall positivity. Hopefully this motivates Nintendo to double down on supporting it.

Been reading GamesMaster, and they seem to really like it. Their review won't be until the next issue, but they called it their most wanted for the previews and gave it a five on the Thrill-o-meter.

ARMS was always going to receive mixed impressions. Which is why I don't really take to reviews with these types of games.

It's still a good score overall though. Obviously, as always it will all count on your subjective view of your own experiences with the game, and so far with Test Punch and the reviews I more inclined to get it.

(Plus I have since finished Zelda :D)

Played online last night only to find one dude waiting there lol. He made short work of me tho. Using the Master Mummy combo with heavy hitting Arms. I could barely get close or even have time to counter. I can see this being a problem early on in the meta >,>

He was called J.Miller who also happens to be the name of a pro Smash player in the UK. Might just be a coincidence tho lol.

I can acknowledge the positivity, doesn't mean I'm not aware of mixed side of things either. This was also when impressions we're first coming out, most of it was arguably positive no?

Download started about three minutes after midnight, took about ten or so minutes.
I'll give it a whirl for a bit and have some thoughts tomorrow.

ARMS - New Character!

Post by GuitarHero » Thu Jun 15, 2017 11:26 pm

We've got two new things already announced for ARMS and the first is a new character coming some time next month - Max Brass! The other update will be adding in a Spectator Mode, which I think they showed off at the ARMS invitational stream.

Great to see we're already getting more content on the way and can't wait to see more.

Well, the game is officially out now. Have fun everyone who's getting it Day 1, personally I'm going to wait until it drops in price and more of the game's DLC is out before I pick this one up, although with so much coming for the Switch in the future it might be a while before there's a "break" to catch up on.

The game works great. Depending on your skill level, even the first two levels can present a bit of a challenge. However, on level 1 you can get in real close and not suffer much damage if you're careful enough.
However, my main gripe with the game is still the controls. I've lost count of the amount of times using motion controls where I've wanted to shield and a punch was thrown. Or I went to punch with normal controls and for who knows what reason the special activated instead. Trust me, trying to play this free-hand Joy-Con with normal controls is an absolute pain.
Aside from those control issues though [I gone through all five it says in the help options, and there's minor niggles with each] it is a very workable game.

Certainly nice to see they're starting to add more content fairly soon, I read online something about a new stage and character will come out each month, hopefully that's true.
