EA Sports FIFA for Nintendo Switch

Post by olrodlegacy » Fri May 26, 2017 9:50 am

Rumours doing the rounds today that this will indeed be another half-effort, fed by the name being "EA Sports FIFA for Nintendo Switch", rather than the FIFA 18 that everyone wants.

Games like these are a must for Switch to retain the mass market, despite what some may say.

Is anyone confident that it will be a fully-fledged FIFA?

I just hope they don't do a half-assed version for the Switch, then complain that it doesn't sell well and that there isn't an appetite for their games on the Switch, so stop developing for it.

It's not even that the Switch is underpowered this time, it can easily knock out FIFA, which isn't graphically challenging.

I hope the "bespoke for Wii" element is local multiplayer, linking the consoles and have say four players a team. That's the only thing which wouldn't be a disappointment for me.

I remember enjoying the street modes on one of the Wii versions, but it didn't compare to the actual games the other consoles were getting.

I want to be optimistic with it, but it's EA so...

Not the best sign but I'm going to be getting it nonetheless.

It would be a bit of a shame for me if this did turn out to be half assed. I'm not that into football games - but I did really want a decent football game for the Switch. This maybe underselling the Switch a little, but I think of it as and use it way more as the best portable game console on the market rather than a home console. So I really wanted a serviceable FIFA game 'cause it would have been cool for train journeys or camping or whatever.

To be clear - we don't know anything about this game and the doubt is coming from the title " EA Sports FIFA for Nintendo Switch" ? this isn'tn just a working title? Like you say not a great sign but will try to remain optimistic :D

If I had a choice of what Football game I'd want on the Switch... I'd say a sequel to Mario Strikers as that game was just so fun

I'd prefer a fully fledged PES rather than a poor FIFA game, it just doesn't sound like it'll be a good FIFA game on par with the other offerings, I hope I'm wrong but the way it might not even be called FIFA 18 isn't giving me any hope whatsoever.

I will be getting the game but it looks like I will be getting Fifa 18 on the Xbox as well, I just hope the Switch version does not miss out to many of the competitions and modes

This. I loved Mario Strikers Charged so much on the Wii, it was a great bit of non-serious football fun, and I still play it with my little brother to this day. A sequel would be perfect.

On the subject of FIFA however, I just hope they actually release Ultimate Team on the Switch for once. That's all really. I enjoyed FIFA 11 on the Wii U but the lack of UT was a really big letdown. I play a lot of FIFA Ultimate Team on PC so I hope to be able to do it on Switch too eventually - as the first portable FUT that would be cool.

That's a good shout - Mario Strikers Switched has a nice ring to it, for example. ;) I just can't get away from the fact that the Wii version was the most frustrating game I played on the machine. If they toned the difficulty curve down a notch, I would be all for it.

Yeah, I remember really struggling to beat the final cup to unlock Petey Piranha. Though I do remember being beast at using the Toads and Boos to sneak past the goalkeeper

When I get home form uni this summer, I'm definitely giving Mario Strikers Charged another go :)

That cheeky Toad trick was the only thing that won me the Striker Cup.

Great news about Ultimate Team being included, the first time on any Nintendo console.

Not fussed about the Frostbite and Story Mode that it'll be missing.

Just hope Nintendo fans and others get out there and buy it, and we'll finally back to having annual proper FIFA on Nintendo like the glory years.

Yeah this ^. This needs to be reasonably successful at least to help the entire console.

It really doesn't seem like they care about it though, the one screeshot they've shown looks like a stretched low res screen pasted onto the Switch's screen and is seriously worrying if it's at all representative of the final version.

If it's a good version of FIFA I'll get it, if it's a poor attempt and a cash grab I'll just leave it. Was secretly hoping Battlefront 2 would get teased for the Switch today, I wasn't really expecting it but it seems like they're doing the bare minimum (are they actually bringing anything besides FIFA) for the Switch to start with.

I think I'm still in regardless. It'll be interesting to see if FIFA gets some playtime during the Treehouse, or is bundled with the Switch at some point. I heard that the total lack of FIFA-with-console bundles was one of the reasons EA was annoyed with Nintendo...

I think I'll get it too. Considering FIFA 13 on Wii U ended up being the most played game on Wii U for me if only because of my extensive use of the simulation mode to "watch" matches, I think 5 years is a long enough time to get a newer version with more up to date squads and players in it. Not bothered by a lack of the Journey career mode because solo player career doesn't really interest me much, the lack of Frostbite I could be OK with if they use the previous engine they used for FIFA 16 and before. The fact that it has Ultimate Team in it makes it infinitely better than the Wii U version.

Hopefully the fact that the Switch is easier to develop for than the Wii U will prevent the stupid freezing issues that plagued FIFA 13 on the Wii U. That said, it does seem like EA expects to be treated on the same level as the major hardware producers with these pack-in deals and Origin, just wish Pro Evolution Soccer was also on the Switch too.

(Although the fact that FIFA has the entire Football League will probably sway me even if the team I support are going to be in League Two in the game)

Still think the game is going to be a spruced up version of the mobile game.

There's really no reason why we couldn't have a slightly better PS3/360 FIFA game on the Switch, just depends if they can be bothered to do it properly.
