Here's a Metroid thread - SR out now!

Post by Jezo » Wed Jun 14, 2017 3:29 pm

Surprised there isn't a thread for these yet.

Metroid: Samus Returns coming to 3ds, and there's also Prime 4 coming for Switch. After 7 years we finally get another main series game, and 2 at that. I do feel kinda sorry for them since they probably felt forced to do this after the commercial failure that was Federation Force. Let's hope the market doesn't now become overly saturated with Metroid games to the point where it becomes repetitive and dull like some of their other franchises.

They both look better than federation force so far, even if MSR looks a bit Other M-y in places. One thing that worries me is that every time Samus is shooting she's stationary. Hopefully being able to move and shoot will still be a thing. What do you guys think?

Lol it's a bit too early to worry about oversaturation of Metroid. Prime 1 and Fusion were released around the same time but what followed was just a steady flow of games.

Maybe if these games are hugely successful but Metroid tends to be a bit more on the modest side in terms of sales. Decent enough but paling in comparison to Mario/Zelda.

After such a long time, 2 new games announced are welcome, even if I'm not exactly impressed by what I've seen so far. It's nice they're trying something new with the Metroid 2 remake. Just hope it's not gimmicky and dumbs down the gameplay.

Meanwhile another (assumedly) first person Metroid is nice. Wasn't too fussed if it would go by the Prime name or not, but I suppose it makes it easier to market. Retro not being involved doesn't worry me exactly since I feel like series could do with a fresh approach. That said there's no footage yet so who knows how good it'll be yet.

Metroid: Samus Returns looks very good from what I've seen, will definitely be getting it at launch.

Metroid Prime 4 should be good, obviously impossible to say without having seen anything so it could equally be so so although I hope it's not.

I'm currently just playing through the full Prime trilogy for the first time anyway (I've played Echoes before when it launched) and really enjoying them. With the announcement of Prime 4 it's made me wonder if they'll remaster the trilogy for the Switch, granted anyone who has a Wii or Wii U can play the trilogy already but they may feel some of the people just getting into Metroid for the first time will appreciate the option to play the earlier games on the same console rather than just read up on the story.

Depending on when I get a Switch and how long it takes me to finish Echoes and start/complete Corruption I may give Metroid Other M another go if I feel I've got the time.

I liked Federation Force, thought it was a rather good game to be fair.

Loving the look of Samus Returns and I can't wait till it comes out in September.

Prime 4 may just be a title atm, but I'm incredibly happy about it finally happening, with this, Pokemon and Fire Emblem to come the Switch will have a bright future.

I'm really pleased that they're remaking Metroid II. I have it on the 3DS VC but it will be a pleasure to play Samus Returns, whereas MII (WAIT THAT SPELLS 'Mii'!) is a bit of a slog, to be honest.

So the new Gamescom trailer looks great... until it confirms that the amiibo unlocks are indeed locked solely behind the amiibo. Safe to say; Nintendo are being dicks with amiibo again.

The only one I'd be bothered out being amiibo exclusive is fusion mode.

That aside the game looks okay. I like the graphical style. Not exactly wowed though. I already played and enjoyed AM2R which had great additions to the game (my main complaint being that the later metroid boss fights were kinda dumb). I've also already played a decent amount of the original before deciding it just wasn't for me. So I'm wondering what this one will really offer asides from - possibly - flashy gimmicks.

Really looking forward to this, the trailer looks ace but locking Fusion mode is very dickish move by Nintendo, I just hope there's plenty of those Amiibo about.

Looking good, not that I'll utilise it but locking Fusion mode behind an Amiibo is pretty poor from Nintendo. Looking forward to playing this as I've never played any version of this game.

If it's anything like the legacy edition (even though that's limited) then I'm expecting the new amiibo to be somewhat uncommon to begin with.

Will likely end up with the squishy metroid, even though my 3DS is an original model.

I've heard SR is dumbed down from the original and easier for it, but I haven't played it so I wouldn't know.

Of course it's easier lol

Nearing the end of the game, I'd say it's still a decent challenge. And I haven't gotten around to hard mode yet.

The extent they made things easier is nothing compared to Metroid Prime Trilogy, where on the 'normal' setting it's actually pretty hard to even die - but 'veteran' is an option at the start anyway and that's close enough to the original difficulty.

Metroid 2's entry barrier is an absolute ballache so it's nice to see that SR is still hard but not horrible.
