Does Anyone Here Experience ASMR

Post by Cruizer » Thu Aug 18, 2016 8:12 pm

http://guardianlv.com/2014/05/asmr-the- ... ome-video/

Does anyone experience Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response, which is a relaxing tingling feeling some people have experience.

I've always had that tingling from certain triggers ever since I was a kid, but only recently knew there was a name for this and a whole online community. I've been listening to them at night as I fall asleep and it helps me sleep better and I feel a bit less anxious and just calmer and able to deal work stress etc a little better.

Couple of videos I use. I'm pretty sure safe for work but censored just incase

I like the soft-whispering and crinkle-sound ones work well for me. I've mentioned it to a couple of friends the physical world - but they were a bit cynical of it or thought I was describing something sexual (which it isn't).

Do you experience ASMR? Does anyone use ASMR videos and noticed a positive effect?

I like some sounds like the sound of cards snapping when you place them down or draw them, the sound of mechanical keyboard clicks, and the sound of bullets being loaded into a magazine, but I gooseberry fool despise the sound of whispering and mouth noises.

I experience it and it's relaxing, don't mention it to people though, only close friends because most people think it's some weird sexual thing when it's not.

Quite often recently. It's driving me up the wall.
I learned of a technique the other day where you put your palms on your ears them touch your middle fingers behind your head. Then you 'click' your index finger from on top of your middle finger onto the base of your skull. Apparently doing this 40-50 times is supposed to offer some relief, doesn't seem to bring me any joy though.

I just play some music as loud as I can without waking anyone else up and do all I can to think about anything else. Or I just say gooseberry fool it after a while and accept that I'm just not getting any sleep that night.

I find that self distraction is the best technique. Excellent material includes every time I have publicly embarrassed myself in my life.

Yeah, it doesn't get that bad often, no idea whether it's just a matter of me noticing it particularly some nights, but once every couple of months or so I'll hear it and it'll just be all I can focus on. That's all it is for me at least, you hear it and your mind focuses on it and that's the moment you've gooseberry fool up.

I hadn't heard of tinnitus until you mentioned it, so I read the wiki article and a few other bits on the net. I'm sorry to hear you and others here have it as it sounds like a very difficult thing to have to put up with. Take care.

Happy to read other here experience it. Yeah it is a bit annoying when people think the point of it is a sexual thing - it's just about getting a simple "tingly" (they use the word tingly a lot in the ASMR community) or relaxed sensation from things that aren't inherrently sexual like the pitter-patter of rain against a glass window, or the sound of someone thumbing through a magazine or the sound of someone taking off a bra. I mean it is very sensual so it can dip into the realm of being sexual (like anything can) as there's a sort of intimacy to it but that isn't the point of it.

I'm grateful for it because I can be quite anxious sometimes and asmr videos help. I've had this nice feeling of ASMR all my life, this visceral soothing, goose-bumpy pleasure but only knew there was a name for this feeling and a whole online community with all these videos (I like the breathy, soft-whispering and tapping ones) about a year ago.

If nothing else, I recommend people who have trouble sleeping play some through head-phones as it definitely helps sleep.

Um, honestly I'm not sure if anyone can make it happen. I've never tried to force it - sometimes you get it randomly IRL life, like the feeling you get when you are with someone that has a soft-spoken gentle way about them and you are very relaxed in their company or even just from towels being folded neatly (apparently this is quite a common trigger, so I'm not alone there, LOL).

Sometimes I'll be listening to a video which usually triggers it and it won't work for me. When this happens I just kind of enjoy the videos for what they are - as even I don't get that tingling I still get to sleep quicker (I used to be a bad sleeper - but hearing someone speak with a pleasant accent in harmonious tones hits that part of your brain that sleeps better when you can hear rain or wind chimes or whatever).

Maybe try a "head scratching" video that imitate Indian Head Massages (as a sidenote real life Indian Head Massages are amazing by the way). Most people get something out of these; you don't literally feel massaged but you get a pseudo-sensation like when you have close contact with someone.

Channels worth checking out are AccidentallyGraceful, Sprinkbok, Sweet Irish Whispers, WhisperingRed - like I say even if you don't experience ASMR they are relaxing and pleasant to listen to. The article I linked in the first line of the OP is worth a read too :D

Subjectively this video works the best for me personally

I'm not sure I've experienced this, as I'm not sure what it's supposed to feel like. I probably haven't, then.

If it doesn't just happen naturally then IMO the best chance of feeling an equivalent thing is to buy one of those head massager things that look a bit like whisks. The sensation is fairly similar.

I used to get something approaching ASMR as a kid in class when I was tired & bored by what the teacher was saying, it was a nice tingly feeling all across my scalp, but I haven't really had it as an adult. The head massager thing was similar & great when I first got it (but I think I've desensitised myself to it :( ).
