Robot Wars

Came over here to talk about robot wars and discovered that there isn't a thread yet, so time to fix that.

First episode was pretty great in my opinion. Carbide is already well on course to becoming an iconic robot alongside the likes of Behemoth and Hypno-disc. Looking forward to hopefully seeing more of the old-school robots back next week.

Hilarious anticlimax of a finale but it was still a good episode overall imo

Kind of a pity that Razor went out so tamely too.

Good start to the series, looking forward to next Sunday. But Razer going out was so dumb, driver being stupid.

Yeah it was pretty good, and rather explosive for a first episode. I do miss the old arena though, this new one looks really bland in comparison

It was a very good start to the series, just disappointing how Razer's return fell flat. Behemoth is the most solid and seems unphased by most situations.

The way Nuts' frame got caught up with one of the competitors was hilarious and with it's quirky little scapegoats sprawling about the arena, became my personal highlight.

Yeah, Nuts was such a bizarre but awesome robot. Not sure how it was ever meant to win a match though. Wouldn't have the force to realistically push anything into a pit, and can't see how that flail would be capable of doing match-ending damage to a vaguely competent robot.

Also, found a full competitors list on Radio Times. Sadly looks like no Hypno-Disc comeback :(

Great first episode, I'm so glad to see it back. Only thing was why no Sgt. Bash?

I wondered that myself, but since there are only four zones for the house robots to occupy, didn't they used to be on some sort of rotation?

My question is, why no Refbot?

There were only 4 zones in the old one, too. I don't know why no Refbot. Maybe they don't want the arena too cluttered?

Looks like it should be good, but I'm gutted not to see some of my old favourites back. I was hoping we might get to see some of Tornado, Chaos 2, Hypno-Disc, Gemini or Wheely Big Cheese.

I can't say I'll miss refbot though, never really liked him.

Foxic. What a eton mess robot! The driver was a bit of an angel delight too.

But that was a decent episode. Thor VS Shockwave was great

Yeah, Foxic was a bit rubbish, although I liked its first attempt to take on Dead Metal. Shame Thor lost at the end, as it was definitely the strongest robot across the show.

What on earth was going on in the fight between Mr. Speed Squared and Foxic? They didn't try and fight each other in any way.

Noticing a lot of robots are going straight for the pit release button almost as soon as the match starts. Surprised people didn't think to do that sooner. Shock Wave winning the whole show was a huge surprise though. Bit disappointed by Mr. Speed Squared though, cool concept but they just lost all momentum after the first round.

Disappointed Thor didn't win, he was easily the best bot throughout the whole tournament. And as everyone else has said, Foxic was absolutely eton mess.

Thor was great, but I'm still pleased for Shockwave. The team gave each battle their all, and deserved to do well!

Should also be said that since I believe there's 1 wildcard in the final, there's a very good chance Thor will get it, at least if its based on who performed best without winning their round.

Quite liked the turnaround for Shockwave although Thor was obviously the better robot on paper and in video evidence.

Foxic was a bit eton mess.

Speed^2 was by far the best designed robot. It's such a shame that it fell apart after the first round, the amount of damage it was doing is insane.

Thor's driver was definitely the best though. I can't believe Foxic thought they could taunt him into breaking his own robot, it was quite clear that that wasn't going to happen after the first 30 seconds.

King B Remix was pretty terrible to be frank and just looking at it's tiny pincers, you could tell they'd lack a meaningful impact.

Pleased for TR2, though I found Dantomkia to be equally as impressive. Meanwhile, what was up with Orte? Didn't see it do anything.

Think Orte got it's sensor knocked out early on, and couldn't do a lot after that.

But yeah, both TR2 and Dantomkia were pretty great, shaping up to be a decent selection in the final so far.
