Actually a really good episode last night, I still struggle to understand why they don't have multiple storylines in most episodes as it makes it all so much nicer to watch. Looks my crazy above theory may not happen either. Oceanside still as bad as it was the last time we saw it.

That didn't feel like a penultimate episode, so much filler and completely non-threatening zombies for a token action scene as usual. Just hope they actually make all the drawn out preparations pay off in a satisfying finale, but at this point I'm losing faith. They need to end the show after season 8 tbh.

Oh and hey i called it Sasha's been spared so that Negan can recruit her

even though she just ran into his base and shot loads of his people

huh

I agree they need to end if after season 8, at the end of all out war it could be seen as a semi happy ending that they could revisit in a few years if they wanted to. But nope, they'll most likely bleed the show dry :(

Still time for Sasha to try again and subsequently get killed by Negan...

Good final episode but didn't end as I would have liked, just feels like nothing has changed really as they are in the same situation

Well at least I was half right about Sasha....

Thought it was a very good episode though, sets it up nicely for (hopefully) a pretty action packed 8th season encompassing all out war parts 1 & 2.

Some stuff has changed, the saviours realise they are not getting an easy ride from the people at Alexandra and have a fight on their hands. The scavengers turned out to double cross them even though it'd have probably made more sense to stay on Rick and co's side as in the long run the scavengers will have to live under Negan's control. Only thing that could have been better is if Sasha did bite Rosita in her undead state.

How would you liked it to have ended?

I have basically no hype for the new season

Although saying that I'm still going to watch it if only to complain

Feel pretty similar myself, trying to get back in the mood by rewatching season 7. Still kind of hoping season 8 is the last one for the foreseeable future, the whole show just feels like it's getting on now. As the producers have said All Out War will be concluded in season 8 it could end with a sort of happy-ish ending, leaving it open to a return in a few years. Obviously they won't and they'll milk it till the bitter end :(

Feel like I watch it quite often just to complain as well though

Was a decent first episode back, for a while I thought we were watching the last episode and the rest of the season would be the events leading upto that battle but by the end that wasn't the case.

Negan is lucky he's got some sort of plot armour, Rick should have easily offed him at a few points in that episode.

Gabriel should have just shot him straight away but obviously he doesn't

Yeah I just find it slightly annoying, if they don't want people to question it then don't put the characters in situations where the viewer already knows the outcome.

So, what did everyone think of the mid season finale? I thought it was alright, nothing special (which has become the norm this season sadly). Don't click the spoiler below till you've watched it or don't mind having it spoilt, pretty much the only interesting point to talk about in my opinion.
Very surprised at the decision to kill off Carl, made next to no sense for advancing other people's story lines (I have read since watching how it's meant to help Rick realise he shouldn't kill Neegan after All Out War) and makes me believe The Walking Dead will end sooner rather than later as in the comics Carl definitely takes on more of the lead roles after All Out War and Rick takes a bit of a back seat, obviously this now can't happen in the show, hence why I think it may have less to run than many thought, hopefully season 9 will be the last one (or maybe even 8, I don't actually know if season 9 has been confirmed yet).

I stopped watching after the first ep and from what I've heard it was a good decision lol
If I ever have time to kill I might binge the series just for the sake of it but I don't really feel any pressing urge to

Not missed a thing really! I find myself watching more because I've watched all the other episodes up until now, just become a habit. If someone told me to start watching at the start of season 8, I'd have watched a couple of episodes and thought what a load of rubbish it is, kind of how I find it right now. It does seem better watched when you can binge on it though, the slow pacing isn't quite as evident when you can watch say 3 or 4 episodes in a day.

The Walking Dead was my favourite program but now with every series it losses more and more of its appeal
I was surprised by the fact that I didn't care that they killed of Carl, I used to really care about everyone and would have been really shocked a couple of series ago but now I dont

They're just trying to be Game Of Thrones in that regard, showing that no character is safe, although in Game Of Thrones it kind of makes sense as outside of a few characters Martin has already said make it to the last book (not the very end mind), any of the others could be killed off.

The Walking Dead on the other hand is Rick's, and to a lesser degree Carl's story. In the comic, Carl takes on a bigger role after all out war when Rick gets injured to a degree where his role becomes more leadership based (gets his leg broken, no idea if they'll go this route in the TV series), killing Carl off to me means one of two things, either Rick doesn't get his leg broken or they're ending the TV series shortly, maybe after series 9. Personally I hope its the second option, The Walking Dead is feeling very long in the tooth, partly down to 16 episode seasons (which I don't think they actually have the content for) and just generally poorer writing and story arcs for the characters.
