Firstly, Steven Moffat was a gooseberry fool terrible showrunner.

Secondly, Russell T. Davies wasn't that much better. But he was better.

Thirdly, Peter Capaldi should stay on for Chris Chibnall's takeover - although his stories haven't been fantastic, that's not down to him and he's showcased wonderful acting ability on numerous occasions.

Fourthly, no female Doctor, why on earth are people still suggesting it, and especially Emma Watson of all people?

Would like to hear why you're so against this? I think a female actor could be just as Doctor-like as any male, most attributes of the doctor can be portrayed by a female. Yes, it's straying away from tradition, but I think it'd be fun to have something a little different, would certainly generate some buzz. I mean, I personally thought Ashildr was great, someone like her would make a great doctor, but to be honest I'd probably just want a male companion to give a different perspective on situations. I don't think a female actor should be given preference when they decide the next one, but I don't think it should be ruled out either.

I too don't like the idea of Emma Watson, I just want to know what you don't like about the idea of a female doctor.

I'm a lot less hesitant about a female Doctor than I used to be, mainly because Time Lords changing gender has now been actively been shown a couple of times (namely the Master/Missy and that Time Lord General) rather than just hinted at/referenced to and has been handled pretty well. I like the casting as it is now but I wouldn't mind a change to the usual white male in the role, as long as it wasn't being done mainly for publicity reasons.

I'm just trying to remember some suggestions for female Doctors in the past... I'm sure Helen Mirren's name has come up before, however unlikely it may be.

We'll be getting a ginger doctor before a female one.

I'd be really happy for the Thirteenth Doctor to be female. In fact, there's been enough set up in the show - as Majin has rightly said - that the chances are higher than ever.

Failing that, two permanent companions, permanently in the TARDIS. What's this in-and-out-of-the-TARDIS rubbish? If I were travelling around with the Doctor for real, I would never want to leave for fear of him/her ( ;) ) not coming back.

Permanent companions are great as long as the writers stop making them fall in love with the Doctor. IIRC there were hints just before Eleven regenerated that Clara might be going that way as well.

I agree that it's frustrating to see over and over again. But realistically, wouldn't you fall in love with someone who could show you all of space and time, is intelligent, good looking, a bit quirky and rescued you from danger on a regular basis?

This has been trending on Facebook today,
http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-enter ... 62911.html

I hope she doesn't become the Doctor as she's just too young, Idris Elba on the other hand is a brilliant actor and generally cool guy that would great for the role, but would he be eccentric enough for the role, as most of the roles he play are hard men.

Some one who I think would be great as Dr Who was the Paul Dano who was recently in War and Peace.

That's exactly what they said about William Hartnell.

I'd prefer Idris Elba for Bond rather than The Doctor. But I guess he could work.

Oh please god no. She's too young and I'm firmly in the camp of people who don't like Ashildr.

Anyone else got the new War Doctor series? Just started Series 1 (Only the Monstrous), so finished episode 1 "The Innocent", it secured John Hurt's place as one of the best Doctors of all time. So, so glad Big Finish snagged him so we could have more adventures.

Everyone get very unhype for Pearl Mackie and a companion who seems like a dumber version of Donna.
<Kaeetayel> Go for a team entirely composed of Eeveelutions
<Princess> that's effort
<Princess> I need to buy the stones/go to rocks/make them happy/touch Eevee
<Kaeetayel> The last one doesn't sound too bad

Welcome back negative fandom. Tbf it's difficult to get hype for a character we know nout about... if they announced a returning character like Jack then that would be hype. Not much to go on for a single character announcement as ever.

But, it is nice to have a 2 minute introduction for her character. It not like the new series is opening until THIS TIME NEXT YEAR D= Bill seems like an refreshing gobby countermeasure after the Clara and Amy years though. Should be awesome. =)

Considering the actress is pretty much a newcomer and there's not an awful lot to see in that clip, I'm holding judgement until I see her first episode, but otherwise I have no real qualms. I'd like to think the backlash isn't because of her and just rather fans crying out for something markedly different. I'll be happy if they just go in a different direction to Clara/Amy with her personality, because after seeing that, it could very easily go either way.

I do find it funny that people accuse the BBC of ticking boxes with this, as if anything other than her acting ability got her the job.

Looks like a different style of companion to the most recent ones so it'll be interesting to see how the chemistry between her and Capaldi is.
