Better Call Saul

Post by Parallel » Mon Feb 09, 2015 10:02 pm

So the first episode of Breaking Bad spin-off/prequel 'Better Call Saul' is up on Netflix now, with the second episode up tomorrow.

IMO the first episode was great, I loved it. Better than the Breaking Bad pilot, and I'm wanting more already. There are some nice tie-ins to BB as well, although I hope the show doesn't rely on doing this too much.

Overall the show is very similar to BB in tone and stylistically as well. Can't wait to see more, nice job Vince Gilligan.

It was good
I knew something wasn't going to go right with the plan to hit the car, as Saul explained the plan beforehand so the show was never going to explain it then show it happen, as that would be needlessly doubling up. However what I thought was going to happen was that the guy being hit would actually be paralysed/killed, so it still surprised me with the hit and run.

It was a good ending too, although I am worried that there will be too many cameo Breaking Bad appearances - Mike's seemed completely unnecessary?

I agree it did seem a little unnecessary, but I'm sure the cameos and throwbacks will get a little less frequent further in when everyone sees the show can stand on it's own (it already can tbh but a lot of people are probably dismissing)

Also in BB everything seemed to get resolved or come back to down the line so I'm sure we'll see Mike again actually doing something of importance

Apologies if that makes no sense, I am v tired

So far it is really good.
Seems to get going a lot faster than Breaking Bad did.
I really can't wait too see more.
As people have already mentioned, Mike's cameo is an odd one.
It doesn't seem to make much sense really, no idea why he's doing that job
Also, Michael Mando is really good in this, I assume he'll end up being the villain or something of this series, but the character is pretty good, even though I can't quite shake the fact that the character is pretty damn similar to Vaas, either that's what the directors wanted, or Michael Mando only seems to play slightly insane criminals.

i really enjoyed the first two episodes and the details that were there as mentioned earlier
although im not sure i think maybe it will be Tuco who is the "Big Bad" considering theres still time before we see how he gets to his position from Season 1 of Breaking Bad?

Loved the first two episodes.
I don't think they'll go down that route with Tuco being the main antagonist though. He's already had that place in Breaking Bad Season 1 and part of S2. I think that the guy talking to Saul at the end could turn out to be the 'big bad' - and that he might do something to Tuco that causes him to be very wary of his accomplices (hence why he kicked the eton mess out of that bodyguard guy in Season 1 of BB). Just a theory.

Watched episode 2 just earlier, it was brilliant. Compare this with the first two episodes of Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul comes out on top for sure.

Enjoyed it so far, first episode was perhaps a little slow, but it wasn't unnecessary.

Yeah the first 10 minutes of the first episode kinda dragged, they did it purposefully but I disliked that.

I thought the first part of ep 1, the black and white bit, was the best bit. Only bit that's dragged so far was the montage in ep 2 which started to go on for slightly too long.

Eh, I thought the montage was a good insight in to his life and how repetitive it is.

Im enjoying it so far, its got Breaking Bad written all over it but it seems to be carving its own identity as well. Im pleasantly surprised at how well its turning out.

Loved episode 3.
Some of it does feel a little unlikely/unrealistic though

sure it was unrealistic but maybe it could happen on reality I mean the explosion wasn't huge so maybe you could still have like. Minute before you succumb to injury
but anyways the biggest bugbear I have is the little intro jingle so far just isn't as good as what BB had

I actually much prefer this intro - Breaking Bad's was rubbish to begin with, it just became iconic as it went on. This one is actually stylish. I love how it cuts out before finishing.

Yeah, it was goddamn polarising.

Never watched a scene that I hated yet loved. I think it was just about worth it for watching Gus almost escape death until the fantastic reveal. But yeah, you really had to suspend all manner of disbelief in a show grounded to normalcy.

I guess my point to the Saul thing is, can't be as bad as that moment can it, really? Haha! XD
