The F1 Forum - Best Overtakes

Hello and welcome to the F1 Forum. Similar to the Poke Polls thread over in the Pokéforum, this thread is designed to ask some questions and provide some discussion points for the F1 community here on SONM. I'll probably switch the discussion around at irregular intervals.

This week's topic is best tracks. Feel free to post your top picks, past or present.

Topics

Aug 2-12: best livery
Aug 12-??: best tracks

I'll start with a few of my favourites.

Jordan 199 - 1999 - Jordan were a bit of a childhood favourite of mine, and I think this is the best of their distinctive yellow colours.
Image

Williams FW22 - 2000 - Probably my favourite Williams livery along with the current Martini colours.
Image

BAR-Honda 003 - 2001 -Another childhood favourite. Not sure why I like this one so much, but I think the bold slogans help.
Image

Lotus 99T - 1987 - Blue lettering on a yellow body? Yes please
Image

I'll add some more later, but now, over to you

Here are a few of my favourites since I started watching in 2009.

Image

The Brawn GP 001, it's livery was simple but at the same time looked amazing.

Image

Like the 1999 Jordan, yellow and black look so good on an F1 car.

That's a couple of my memorable ones from the past years, I may post some more later on :)

Gonna move this along now with a new topic: best track. This can be past or present, any track which you feel provided the most exiting races or just was a great design in general. I'll open to the floor first then I'll post a few of my picks.

Old Silverstone (I miss Bridge Corner, when it was first used, F1 cars would go through there at 160mph)

Good shout D.J. I never got round to doing my list, so I guess I'll do that now. Might do a new topic soon.

Was just making my track list but got beaten to it. Here it is anyway

Brands Hatch for being insanely fun in every way
Spa for obvious reasons
Silverstone for speed reasons
Austin for being generally great
And hey, Sepang because why not

Top 5 on the grid?

HAM
VET
ALO
VER
RIC

Verstappen for obvious reasons. Hopefully he doesn't lose his appetite for overtaking round the outside of Blanchimont as he gets older.

Top five on the grid as follows: (in no order mind)

- Vettel
- Hamilton
- Alonso
- Verstappen
- Sainz Jr

For the most part the 2015 grid is actually very stong so its quite tricky to pick a top 5. I included the Toro Rosso drivers as they have both impressed and they could both become top tier drivers. Also I'd find it hard to include Verstappen and not include Sainz Jr when I reckon Sainz Jr has done just as well as Verstappen albeit with nowhere near as much attention around him.

Personal fave is Button though.

Was beginning to think this thread had slowly died, glad to see it back with a new topic :)

Anyhow, here are some of the more memorable ones (that Hakkinen vs Schumacher one at Spa is great though)

Took some nerve to keep his foot down when he was rumbling over the kerbs.

There's a few for now, will post more if/when I remember some more.

Hamilton on Kubica, France 2007. Not the best overtake of all time but some awesome duelling between two phenomenally talented men, and beautifully shot too.

Oh, and Raikkonen on Fisichella, Japan 2005. One of the greatest individual races ever driven by any driver at any point in history.

New topic: Worst F1 cars!

Post the worst F1 cars that you can remember seeing compete during the time you have been following F1, sometimes it's not even the slowest that can suck the most, as some have even been reasonably fast, only for them to break down as soon as they leave the pit lane.

But yeah, you get the point, post your worst F1 cars...

Prost Peugeot AP03 (2000)
Image

While the Minardi was generally the slowest car that season, it still did better than this pile of garbage.

Footwork Porsche FA12 (1991)
Image

A car so bad, it literally split in two upon striking a barrier at Monaco.

BAR Supertec (1999)
Image

Before the season began, the team formerly known as Tyrrell boasted that they would win their first race, they were outscored by Minardi (who picked up a point for 6th place at the Nurburgring with Marc Gene).
