General Cycling Discussion

Post by Sander » Sat Jun 17, 2017 5:58 am

Cycling, also called bicycling or biking, is the use of bicycles for transport, recreation, exercise or sport. Persons engaged in cycling are referred to as "cyclists", "bikers", or less commonly, as "bicyclists". Apart from two-wheeled bicycles, "cycling" also includes the riding of unicycles, tricycles, quadracycles, recumbent and similar human-powered vehicles (HPVs).
That is what Wikipedia says about cycling. You probably know about the likes of Chris Froome and Peter Sagan.
I live in Flanders and most foreigners say our love for cycling is crazy here.
Anyone else who likes this sport?

I follow the major results, but I rarely watch a race (like the Tour or Giro) unless there has been nothing else on. That said, when the Olympics roll round I find track cycling one of the more exciting things to watch due to a lot of the events being intense and quick.

I own a bike. I've not ridden it for something like 5 years aside from one attempt a couple of months ago where I almost died before even reaching the end of the driveway so gave up because I've kind of forgotten how to ride.

But yeah, usually watch it when it's on the Olympics, but otherwise, I don't give a eton mess. Though I tend to hear about it because cycling was my dad's mid-life crisis as he was too poor to get a sports car for a mid-life crisis like a normal person.

I kind of follow the Tour de France, and Olympic cycling is pretty fun to watch. Don't follow the rest of the circuit though.

In terms of taking part, given I managed to fail my proficiency test twice it's probably for the best that I avoid it.

How? I managed it when I was 10. I have since forgotten how to ride a bike, yes, but how do you fail that thing twice?

Can't actually remember the first one. Second I was told not to cross the road if anyone was coming and took it a bit too literally, meaning that since they'd timed it so someone was always just starting to come towards me I never went.

I was 10/11 myself, so it's hardly recent mind.
