I never watched it when it was on ITV, because of the adverts.
Turns out those were the good old days.

Max was robbed!

Even Niki Lauda was appalled...

The thing is the stewards bring it upon themselves. They penalised no one for running wide all weekend, Sainz did a similar move (although didn't make it stick) but Verstappen is the only one penalised for something being abused all weekend. They need to either enforce it 100% or not, not when it feels needed.

Saying that they were spot on penalising Verstappen.

Personally, i think that the best way to get rid of all this 'track limits' silliness would be to put proper grass or gravel at the edges of the tracks rather than all that tarmac. The drivers wouldn't dare leave the circuit then as if they did, they would (like how things used to be) end up in a tyre barrier or beached.

Yeah it probably would be the best way but it won't be changing back anytime soon.

Anyway I've completed my first season on F1 2017, finished 3rd overall (probably should up the difficulty) and I spent the full first season upgrading efficiency and quality control upgrades. I did 2 of each quality control and 5 efficiency for the chassis, 4 for the aero and 1 for the engine. Looks like I'll be waiting a while longer before I finally start upgrading my car, currently the 5th best car although Renault are just about to overtake me and Williams already have. I did have some very tempting offers to move but considering the way I've spent my points moving how would be pointless.

Nah, this would be the best way to get drivers to respect the track limits:
Anyway, Vettel on pole, but I don't think he'll be too pleased to be starting alongside Max Verstappen on the front row given what happened in Signapore. Seems like the stewards were a bit lenient with him too, possibly they feared giving out a further penalty given the outcry from Verstappen's late race penalty. Either way, this promises to be a tasty race...

Yeah, let's turn F1 into a deathmatch. I doubt the racers would go all out however.

It'd make them stay on the track though, maybe a touch extreme though!

Anyway hopefully Vettel will get a win, I know Hamilton had it more or less wrapped up but if Ferrari can get a couple more wins hopefully they'll go into 2018 with some confidence, hopefully meaning a nice wdc battle again.

What is promising is how Red Bull have improved, hopefully this might lead to a 3 team battle next season.

Well, unsurprisingly Hamilton won his 4th WDC on Sunday, well done to him and Mercedes. Ferrari and Vettel were just a little too hot headed and unreliable at some weekends.

Also new engine regs for 2021 have been penned,
Manufacturer representatives were presented with the vision for the key new features of the 2021 Power Unit proposed by the FIA and F1. These are as follows:
1.6 Litre, V6 Turbo Hybrid
3000rpm higher engine running speed range to improve the sound
Prescriptive internal design parameters to restrict development costs and discourage extreme designs and running conditions
Removal of the MGUH
More powerful MGUK with focus on manual driver deployment in race together with option to save up energy over several laps to give a driver controlled tactical element to racing
Single turbo with dimensional constraints and weight limits
Standard energy store and control electronics
High Level of external prescriptive design to give ‘Plug-And-Play’ engine/chassis/transmission swap capability
Intention to investigate tighter fuel regulations and limits on number of fuels used
A series of meetings will now commence with all the interested parties to discuss and develop the proposal in the spirit of the widest possible cooperation.
Sounds like a cheaper engine, a 1.6 V6 Turbo with a big KERS system and dropping the expensive MGU-H. Sounds good on paper, especially the 3K increase in rev's if they increase the fuel flow of the engines.

So, since we're coming towards the end of the season, what's everyone's thoughts been on the season.

Personally this has been the most memorable season for me in some time although I think it ended up a bit anticlimactic in the end and the fact that once Ferrari were shown that they were going to be competitive it looked very likely to be a Hamilton vs. Vettel title battle. But there were a lot of good races and dramatic moments throughout the season to make it all worthwhile even if Mercedes ended up winning both titles again.

Fantastic first half, very so so second due to 3 weekends of poor reliability for Ferrari and one race where an opening crash robbed us of what could have been a cracker.

Overall not as good as 2010 or 2012. Four people going into the last race with a chance at the WDC in 2010. 2012 was just crazy, 7 winners from 7 races to start it off and then a climatic finale seeing Vettel come back through the field with damage. Would have been just as good (maybe a little better) if Alonso had clinched his 3rd title with Ferrari.

It's been a pretty decent season to be honest, having two teams in contention for the title was great, and there have been some very pleasant surprises along the way.

Best round of the season was Azerbaijan. Crashes, safety cars, road rage, Bottas pipping Stroll to 2nd on the last straight, that race had it all!

On a seperate note, Felipe baby* will definitely be stepping down for good at Abu Dhabi: https://www.autosport.com/f1/news/13283 ... nd-of-2017

This season could've been so much more, but the implosion from Ferrari ended what could've been a great finale. Oh well, I have better hopes for next year with the Red Bull resurgence towards the end of this season along with McClaren Renault, we could have more title challengers.

I think its the right decision for Massa, he's had a great career and retiring now seems the best way. Am really hoping for Kubica to take his seat, as I was always a fan of his when he was still racing.

I think it's a bit rich of Villeneuve to critise Bottas' driving when he himself only drove well for one season in F1 (1996 - his '97 title win was down to a mixture of good reliability and sheer dumb luck).

It does a little, what makes it worse is that they'll have paid someone/firm a fair chunk of money to make the logo and there are so many better designs done by fans on Twitter than the one they opted for. Personally I still don't see what was wrong with the old logo other than Liberty Media wanted a change as they're the new owners and want to distance themselves from the time under Bernie.

While the new logo isn't the greatest, it's nothing compared to how crap the cars will look with the halo bolted on next season.

Such a pity too, as i personally thought the 2017 cars looked fantastic.

I'm still hopeful the 2018 cars will look nicer as they've been designed with the halo on mind rather than we've seen in 16/17 where the halo was simply bolted on. The 2017 cars did look fantastic though.

Good for Sauber, surprised Ericsson didn't get let go to get Giovinazzi in there as well as a shoot out for the second 2019 Ferrari seat.
