Don't do that last tip if you're playing Celts. You need forests to boost your faith per turn.OrangeRakoon wrote:Play as Egypt with that Tradition policy and that wonder building pantheon.
Manually control citizens after setting the city to production focus.
Also cut down any spare forests for them production boosts if needed.

Re: A Civilization Thread for Civilised People | Rising Tide
The complete pack is on sale atm for £8.74 until the 3rd of August.
BNW is the only DLC that I haven't got so I may finally get it now.
I only started playing Civ 5 (G&K) last month, but I've played enough of Civ 3 and 4 to know what I'm doing. Am I right in thinking BNW is a lot different to vanilla and G&K?

Just remember to build trade ships and caravans, also check the social policies to make sure they allow you to build the wonders you want
Also get friendly with city states later on

Tbf, religion is already a big change, but Trade routes are the best change civ has ever made. Completely changes the game and completely for the better, it's the one reason I just can't go back to previous versions.

Cool, can't wait to try it out.
Does religion have more importance in BNW? It doesn't appear to be too damaging if you don't found one. I've played plenty of games where I've not managed to found a religion or even a pantheon and I've done pretty well. Especialy if I play as a Civ that doesn't have relgious/faith bonuses.

Trade routes help with the spread of religion, which can be pretty useful if you have certain beliefs such as Tithe. Other than that, I'm not really sure what other benefits there are. Don't usually play religion-centric civs.

The general consensus seems to be that you go with a religion if you manage to get one, but don't go out of your way to get one because you can otherwise do fine.

Re: A Civilization Thread for Civilised People | Rising Tide
Did the 'one city challenge' with a few friends earlier. I was way ahead in points (I've never been this far in front of everyone else before). I decided to get cocky and try to take someone out before they got to industrialization. The statistics said I had the biggest army, so I decided to attack a friend. Little did I know, they had a bigger naval army than I did... Sooo I got wiped out pretty quickly and was out of the game </3
Rookie error that.

Never try and get cocky when you don't know the strength of your enemy. I did that in my first ever game, and wound up getting my capital taken over by the Byzantines. Since then I've typically tried to avoid conflict unless it was absolutely necessary.

Re: A Civilization Thread for Civilised People | Rising Tide
Kept playing my latest single player game into the 2130s. But my empire was so big that it started to collapse in on itself because of unhappiness. So many cities and citizens that having all the happiness buildings and policies couldn't prevent rebel uprising. It was quite funny when rebel Giant Death Robots appeared and then immediately walked over the nearby border and screwed over a different civ.

So Brazil's pretty good
Usually Jungles are bad, but found a pantheon that gives +1 culture from jungles, then make a carpet of brazilwood camps for +2 gold and +2 culture, then make universities for +2 science and you have quite a nice level of resources coming in. And Pracinhas have the icon of a snake which is cool.
Also they do well at bashing Bismarck's head in

Re: A Civilization Thread for Civilised People | Rising Tide
Sweden have the worst AI in the entire game I swear
They're expansionist while being eton mess at it, their tech is always bad, they will denounce you while you're friends with them, they'll declare war on you even when you kicked their ass twice already during the game, they'll always be "plotting against you" forcing you to put troops on your border DESPITE having a declaration of friendship, and then they'll just sit on their hands and get in your way while you're fighting a solo war against a maniacally powerful Bismarck.
gooseberry fool Sweden.

I've liked the games where Sweden are in but not bordered with me. Because they're eton mess and either get taken out and identify who the real threat is or give me a place I can get a foothold on the new continent. They've also given me some good trade deals in the past.

Re: A Civilization Thread for Civilised People
I started playing Civilization VI today. It's different to Civ V so I don't feel comfortable with it. Exactly the same as Beyond Earth. It works differently. I started with Civ V and that's the one I fell in love with, so when it doesn't work the same way, I don't like it as much. Some of the things might be better, but I'm not used to them, so I'm struggling on the second easiest difficulty. Also, it visually looks eton mess when playing. All the things I saw beforehand looked great. But actually playing it, it looks rubbish.

Re: A Civilization Thread for Civilised People
ye i really haven't got into civ 6 either
it feels so SLOW is the trouble, and a few other annoyances too (why can't i see district adjacency bonuses in the build menu? i have to go back to the damn tech tree). i like the visuals though, think they're fine

you're still playing as japan but now your leader is a cute anime girl and you get access to japan's impressive BOATS, such as the Harekaze, Musashi, and Hiei instead of mediocre samurai and zeros that do gooseberry fool all.
