True, but his understanding of the game still remains to amaze me. Next time I'm gonna let him play online and see how well he does lol.Jezo wrote:Getting perfect wins in ferrum league isn't difficult.H.Kazuhira wrote:I let him play through some of Ferrum league and free play and he was left undefeated with several perfect wins. Shame there's no spectator mode/replays, that'd make a tourney much more interesting

Just hope they'll continue to support the game like they did for smash bros.

Re: Pokken Tournament
I Guarantee we are getting a more complete NX version with more characters in the future. DLC seems inevitable seeing how well the game has been received. Hoping we see something during E3 or Evo.

Re: Pokken Tournament
Ok, this game needs a patch. Besides the whole infinite shadow mewtwo string, there are some things I think should be tweaked:
Moves should start staling
Mewtwo needs either more hitstun or lower hp (he currently has hp equal to blaziken, yet does no damage to itself, and recovers from moves very quickly, not to mention how fast hyper beam comes out.)
Machamp does way too much damage
Sceptile is the only character with a get up attack, and it comes out at gooseberry fool light speed.
I might be wrong on some of these, but this is what i've found so far.

Re: Pokken Tournament
There might be a balance patch at some point, but not this soon and I kinda doubt what you've pointed out will be what's balanced. I don't really expect someone from here to really be meta-defining enough to pick out those things. Hell, even then, it's been in arcades for a long time in Japan, if those things were issues, wouldn't they have been picked up by now? Though I forget which fighters weren't in the arcade one.

Re: Pokken Tournament
There's already a damage limit on combos. Staling might unbalance other areas of the game tho. Like the quicker weaker fighters will have a much harder time keeping up.

Re: Pokken Tournament
honestly the game doesn't need staling because the combos scale so gooseberry fool hard that trying to add staling would make matches drag on even longer. but whatever the game's not supposed to be competitive so i doubt they'll address things like that (or optimally, patch out the 3D mode altogether)

Re: Pokken Tournament
Finally got this game and got time to sit down and start it. Faced with the decision of who to start with and until I learn the game a bit more I think I will stick to maining Lucario, Blaziken and Charizard as they all got used on an in-game team in the past.
If any of them suck in this game or if I can't use them well at all then they will be dumped.

Re: Pokken Tournament
I got my dick handed to me by Shadow Mewtwo. I really don't get this game. Counter attacks seem like they only work when they want to work. I'm sure I'm missing something, but it seems a lot of attacks just beat them out. Some rounds I'd just dominate against Shadow Mewtwo, but other times he'd just rek me. This game seems to mostly just be about making reads. Like, you approach with something and just hope they're not doing the countering option. You get a combo in dual phase, then again, hope they don't use the option that counters your next option. It's literally multiple games of rock, paper, scissors in a row. Unless I'm missing something.

Re: Pokken Tournament
Scratch that, Chandulure has now become my main. Some very interesting moves and a fast ranged attack. However, I don't have a particularly good record online so far which doesn't surprise me as fighting games are something I've always been average at. Still a fun game though, just a shame other Chandulure I meet online just spam the ranged attack to win rather than trying to be a bit more varied. Also I struggle to land his finisher.Ape wrote:Finally got this game and got time to sit down and start it. Re: Pokken Tournament
Reading and reacting seems to the nature of this game. I feel like there's also a strong back and fourth element, which is trying to keep the spirit of the main games. You can't go combo heavy or be reckless and knowing match ups is also pretty important. Like today I learned that Braixen murders Suiciune if I'm not careful. I think I'm starting to get used to it bit more tho. Currently doing the last league. That Shadow Mewtwo fight was pretty dumb yeah.Jezo wrote:I got my dick handed to me by Shadow Mewtwo. Re: Pokken Tournament
Yeah, the general consensus seems to be that this is the most obvious RPS fighter out there right now, so much so that in the tutorial they do say the systems are just like RPS. It's just read and react but then that's where you start with fighters.

Re: Pokken Tournament
But I think Pokken makes it interesting with having both Field and Duel phase to mix it up. Can't wait for the meta to develop so we start seeing more competent players. Games can get pretty hype when you have to even players that are neck to neck.

Re: Pokken Tournament
I still don't get what the two phases are for. It just mixes up the controls and camera angles and I can't even see immediately which we're in even with the thing in the corner.

Re: Pokken Tournament
The two phases are there largely to prevent infinite combos since without exploiting a bug you'll be launched into field mode after taking so much damage so you get a reset basically. Plus some characters are better in one phase to the other, etc. and it's just a gameplay dynamic. Sounds like the kind of thing you'd get used to knowing what mode you're in by playing more.

Re: Pokken Tournament
I have to admit, I'd really rather not play more. It was a terrible purchase on my part. I knew it wasn't going to go well. But I kinda thought that it would at least be like Smash where I could have some fun while getting the eton mess kicked out of me. I underestimated just how proper fighting game this got.
Actually, the whole "getting a WiiU" thing was probably a mistake on my part too.

Re: Pokken Tournament
It's more traditional than smash, sure. I quite like the 2 phases just for variety, but I'm not a big fan on the gameplay. Still enjoying it though.
