Re: Sonic Mania/Forces
I've experienced a few glitches in Mania so far.
-The Chemical Plant zone boss everyone else mentioned
-Gliding over the studiopolis act 1 boss trigger
-In one of the special stages, I think the 2nd or 3rd one, you can either go up a ramp over a gap in the path, or jump over the ramp and onto a ring block which then bounces you up over the gap as well. But one time hit the block, but I still fell through. I was like "Damn, guess you've gotta hit it just right", and the camera panned down as if I fell out of the course, but I could still hear jumping sounds when I pressed the button and then the "course out" message or whatever it is flashed on screen as if I hadn't yet fallen out. So I'm wondering whether I did actually make it but the game thought I hadn't so fixed the camera downward below the course when I was actually still playing and then accidentally jumped out of the course since I couldn't see.
Otherwise this game is amazing.

Re: Sonic Mania/Forces
Sonic Mania is top gaming. I genuinely can't think of a better retraux game: it's just so faithful to everything that I remember from the MD Sonic games. An astonishing achievement.
Yeah, I quite liked it.

Gonna get the PS4 version, just don't know whether to get it now or when it's discounted as I've heard it short.

Well, if you know you'll just one-shot it and forget it, then yeah, I'd say wait. If you know you'll be trying for all the achievements or know you'll be replaying stages just because you like to, then now is as good a time as any.

Re: Sonic Mania/Forces
I've been hunting down those S-Ranks, and have come to realise there's a lot more in terms of collectables than I thought in this game.
All Red Rings unlock the five numbered rings in a stage. Complete those, and the moon medals become available. And that's on all stages. And that doesn't count the missions that unlock all the avatar equipment - those will seriously take some time.
But with all that collecting, it still gives a chance to enjoy the levels themselves, and that really is the whole point of a Sonic game.

Re: Sonic Mania/Forces
Pros:
- Had fun with the avatar creator, just as I do with most character creator features.
- There was the odd track or two that I liked the sound of.
- Doesn't control as well as previous entries. Tighter platforming sections are a pain, as you're either too fast or too slow.
- And despite issues like that, the game is easy. On my initial playthrough, I got an S rank on the majority of stages.
- Levels are short. I came in at around 2 minutes on my first runs of each level, and is evident they can be beaten in a vastly shorter time.
- Sonic Forces is a bit too eager with the rewards. There was one occasion where it took longer to go through my unlocks than it did the level I just beaten.
- Soundtrack, for the most part, is forgettable.
- The plot is half-assed. Cutscenes are lacklustre, and Eggman's conquest is barely described over a few lines on a black screen.

I really like the soundtrack, some very good toe tapping tunes in there.

Re: Sonic Mania/Forces
If you can overlook the same-sounding synth in all of Sonic's stages, and the weird psuedo-chip-tunes used in Classic's stages, it's a good soundtrack. The avatar songs I find to be the best, though.

Re: Sonic Mania/Forces
I never knew how much I needed,
Somebody to help me this way.
That pretty much sums up the theme of the game. If the story wasn't based on the end of the world, Classic was removed from it, and the entire idea of the resistance, that theme would still ring true. This game is thematically saying don't turn your back on help just because you don't know the one offering it.
Oh, and the fact the final part of the song is just absolutely hype.

Really surprised how enjoyable the avatar stages are and how many options there are to customise the avatar
